CBC’s Heather Mallick is ashamed to be Canadian but probably not enough to decline taxpayer funded salary

Much traveled media hack Heather Mallick is at it again… Her latest diatribe is a call-to-arms for Canadians to rally and oust the evil Harper before he destroys Canada and the World. (see story here)

It’s hard to settle on a couple of choice quotes of hers to show how truly nutty she is:

“Canada’s Conservative government, run by an ideologue named Stephen Harper, does not represent Canadian voters on saving the air we breathe and temperatures we can cope with. When it comes to climate change, Canadians are as earnest and decent as they ever were”

“What takes place when a nation can’t decide on a government and lets a rightwing minority, quivering with hate, have just enough power? Catastrophe, that’s what.”

“May I humbly beg for patience with my country, which is stuck like a beaver in a dam of its own making.”

“Harper is determined to turn Canada into America-lite. He doesn’t mean the America of Obama. He means the America of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, with its private affluence and public squalor.”

Two sets of investigation standards at Elections Canada: One for the Greens and one for the Conservatives

We all remember the splashy headlines when Elections Canada stormed the Conservative Party’s headquarters with search warrant, RCMP, media and  Liberal Party home movie taker in tow. This case is currently in the courts with the Conservative’s saying their spending tactics did not break any guidelines.

What we now have is an example of extremely heavy-handed investigation tactics used against one party and none for another:

Stuart Hertzog ran against Elizabeth May for the nomination in the B.C. riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands. He lodged a formal complaint with Elections Canada shortly after he lost the nomination to May on Sept. 19. Hertzog claimed that the party’s transfer of $62,000 to the electoral district association amounted to an illegal transfer of funds to May’s campaign. He also alleged that May had unfair access to party resources, such as membership lists.

And what does Elections Canada say about all this? The lawyer for Elections Canada replied to Hertzog that he didn’t provide enough information to warrant even a basic investigation. Case closed.

“My assumption was that I would point them in the right direction and they would follow-up and go and ask questions. They didn’t do that and instead it seems they have acted as the defence counsel for the Green party.” (see story here)
