Notice the signs at the “grassroots” protests today?

First thing that struck me when I saw the picture that the Globe and Mail ran with the Canadian Press anti-prorogation protest story was the how most of the protest signs were the same and the professional quality of them.

Where did the money come from to design and print them off?

Liberal Senator: Please roll over and go back to sleep

Liberal Nova Scotian Senator Wilfred Moore writes an op-ed in the Chronicle Herald (big surprise that they printed it):

“on behalf of constituents who have expressed their concern to me regarding Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s prorogation of Parliament”

This is a guy that was appointed by Jean Chretien who prorogued parliament 4 times and I’d be pretty sure Moore didn’t object on behalf of his dear constituents then. (see op-ed here)

Norman Spector’s last day as a Globe and Mail contributor?

Norman Spector’s days at the Globe may be numbered after he showed the hypocrisy between today’s editorial (see here) on prorogation and last year’s where the globe supported it.

Will he be now following Rex Murphy out the door as one who dares go against the new editor in chief John Stackhouse’s personal biases?

Notice how this criticism only appeared on Spector’s private blog and not his Globe’s “Spector Vision”. (see it here)

Edit: It’s up on his Globe blog now

Insite court decision undermines drug laws?

Rory Leishman writes today how the “the court has undermined the entire bans on drug possession and drug trafficking in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.”

He cites the minority dissent in the ruling by Justice Daphne Smith:

“supervised injection sites could be opened in every city across Canada. The creation of  ‘enclaves’ where illicit drugs may be brought for intravenous drug use, without the potential for prosecution, could eviscerate the efficacy of a criminal law validly enacted by Parliament that seeks to address the broader context and consequences of illicit drug use across the entire supply chain.”

Leishman blames the infestation of  “arbitrary judicial activists who have no compunction about changing the law to suit their personal policy preferences.” see full column here

Liberals to make education (a provincial jurisdiction) large party plank

Here we go again with the Liberals deciding that they know what’s best for the provinces.

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff has apparently decided that education will be a wedge issue to use against the Conservatives even though it is not a federal responsibility. Not that it has ever stopped the Libs from interfering before to try and score political points ie Millennium Scholarships and the national day-care program put forward in the last election.

Here’s a head scratching quote from Iffy on the issue that the MSM doesn’t even bother to question:

“I respect provincial jurisdictions. I don’t want to run education from Ottawa, but for heaven’s sake, let’s try to get a national strategy on education”
