Imagine what all those wannabe BC Liberal leaders are thinking about their chances of inheriting the crown left by Gordon Campbell.
Les Leyne of the Victoria Times lists some of this would-be group and includes one of their pro-HST quotes:
Cabinet minister Bill Bennett: “The HST eliminates embedded taxes … I think some of my constituents probably do not get it yet. I think they will, and the piper is going to be paid on this.”
Cabinet minister Shirley Bond: “Absolutely essential.”
Cabinet minister George Abbott: “I do not find the decision around harmonizing taxes a difficult one … It’s good public policy.”
Forests Minister Pat Bell: “One of the most important things we can do.”
First-term Liberal MLA Norm Letnick gives you the idea what it is like to be a Liberal now in BC: “I’ve never been called so many names in my life,” I don’t like it.”
Leyne concludes: “It’s not often you see an entire caucus disqualified from a leadership race before it even gets underway.”

I have a feeling that whoever becomes the leader after Campbell, will be a repeat of Rita Johnston…they will oversee the dissolution of the free-enterprise coalition that can keep the Socialist Hordes at bay.
The question is, will the new coalition coalesce around the BC Conservatives without becoming the party of Howe Street?

Not as long as I have any say…and speaking of Rita Johnson, stay tuned…

Rita Johnston was probably the best Premier we never had. Yeah, I know, technically she WAS Premier, but only because Vanderzalm resigned to let someone else take the heat, just like Mulroney did to Kim Campbell.
I had a conversation with her once in the 80′s and was struck by what a no-BS, common sense person she was. The MSM loved to headline that she was a mere “trailer park owner in Surrey”, and therefore not, in their puerile minds, qualified to be Premier.
IMHO, anyone that can run a tough business like a trailer park in Surrey is probably a hell of a lot better qualified to run a government than a university professor or Community Organizer!
btw, in that pic of the Province I find the story at the very top of the Paper a lot more interesting than the one about the HST, hope some blogger picks up on it!
