No problem though with media when Iffy rides bike on sidewalk sans helmet

After a smarmy question posed by someone from the Ottawa Media Pack on if PM Stephen Harper needed a license to ride an ATV especially on a remote airport runway (see here), the picture above came to mind of Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff riding a bike in Ontario.

There is no law in Ontario for people to wear a helmet while riding a bike if they over the age of 18 but according to the Ontario Liberal governments website:

“Cyclists over 18 are encouraged to wear helmets for their own safety” and

“Research shows that helmets can be extremely effective in preventing head injuries. About three-quarters of all cycling fatalities involve head injuries. The Ontario government is committed to promoting cycling safety”

BTW, what does the local bylaw read for riding on sidewalks I wonder? Did anyone in the media ask Iffy that?

Funny how there is one set of questions asked Stephen Harper by the Ottawa Media Pack, and another for Iffy.

PM has some fun, media attack him for it

No, not the Inuit dancing…that was great. This happened when PM Stephen Harper jumped on an ATV for a little rip and lo and behold, one question from the journalist pack is:

“whether he had a licence to operate the vehicle — especially on restricted space such as an air strip?”

Anyone know who it was that asked that smarmy question? (see here)

Check out the headlines already appearing here

Update: Thanks to a couple of readers who sent the NWT ATV rules here

“You do not need a licence, but you must be 14 years of age to drive on the highway, and you must wear an ATV helmet at all times”

Globe’s Martin pines for the days when every party was liberal

Lawrence Martin is besides himself now that he’s clued in that PM Stephen Harper not only believes but operates the Conservative Party ideologically…conservative.

Anyone who has done any reading on Harper knows that he vehemently opposed Preston Manning’s approach of being all things to all voters with no defining political credo.

Poor Martin liked it better when:

“Mr. Clark, Don Mazankowski, Flora MacDonald, Lowell Murray, Barbara McDougall, chief of staff Hugh Segal. Most of them could have served comfortably under Lester Pearson”

Even if some fiscally conservative Canadians would beg to differ about exactly how “hard-right” this government is, that would just get in the way of Martin’s laments for the good-old-days. (see column here)
