This is what happens when you make political policies on the fly and have a leader who doesn’t have a clue about them.
The Liberals have promised a $1,000-$1,500 “learning passport” (perfectly named after Iggy huh?) grants for students attending accredited university, college or CÉGEP costing an estimated $1B.
Besides education being a provincial responsibility, the Globe and Mail asked why the Liberals would give a minimum of $1,000 to students attending Quebec CEGEPs when the cost to attend is just $500? (see here)

I guess this Toronto-centric party doesn’t have any Quebec people, young or old on their staff to tell them how cheap education is in Quebec.

It’s the brown bag payoff for students who were the only ones to attend the Count’s lectures on his past bus tours.

There’s an update to the story that the Liberals informed the Globe & Mail that the amount would be different for students in Quebec…
Except that the National Post tells me that it’s being run through increased grants in RESPs (from 14-17), and that half of the traditional credits granted to university students (465/month of full time or 120 of part time study) are being taken away. The devil is in the details.

Any time the Feds intrude into Provincial jurisdiction Quebec cries foul but takes the money and hands it out the way they want to. Thank you Paul Martin.
