My letter to Conflict of Interest Commissioner regarding Christy Clark’s free Stanley Cup tickets

Conflict of Interest Commissioner
101 – 431 Menzies Street
Victoria, BC V8V 1X4

As reported in the Globe and Mail, Premier Christy Clark received two free Game 7 Stanley Cup tickets from the owners of the Vancouver Canucks ie Canucks Sports & Entertainment which was apparently “cleared” by the Conflict-of-Interest Commissioner.

Is it true that this gift was allowed by the Commissioner’s office and if so, was it known that the owner of the Canucks has been a donor to the BC Liberal Party?

Liberal premier gets Game 7 Cup tickets given to her

Well, well…there are two sets of standards with the media when it comes to politicians going to a Stanley Cup hockey game.

When it’s a Conservative like Stephen Harper, the Press Gallery goes nuts (see here) when he dared travel to Boston to support the Vancouver Canucks even as he paid for the tickets and flight “costs” but how much will the media care that Liberal premier Christy Clark was comped tickets?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and expect next to no coverage of this very expensive swag given to her by Canucks Sports & Entertainment who have given money to the Liberal Party since ’08. The previous company, Orca Bay was owned by another Liberal donor, John McCaw.

Also: Check out the Vancouver Canucks’ owner caught during the BC Rail investigation paying to fly out BC Liberals to a convention to support Paul Martin here

Update: Media coverage so far has been this one small story in Globe and reference only to Globe’s story in the Star

The NDP and crossing Air Canada picket line

This is just too delicious. How does the NDP get around their principles of not flying the unionised Air Canada to get to the Vancouver convention let alone anywhere else while the customer service workers are on strike?

NDP Pat Martin: “I don’t cross picket lines and neither will our MPs but I think the union would understand if ordinary delegates continued to travel (Air Canada) if they were unable to cancel their tickets”

Like most else with socialists, these rules are only there for show when convenient or someone else is paying for it.  (see here)
