Huh, Minister for CBC won’t even contact them for policy explanation?

James Moore keeps proving himself incapable of being in charge of the Heritage Ministry and how he keeps his job is baffling to say the least.

His latest idiocy comes when questioned about the CBC’s “policy” of not publishing suspected war criminals’ names and photos.

‘Asked if he had contacted the CBC about its policy, Moore replied, “I don’t interfere in the day-to-day activities of the CBC.”‘ (see here)

Let’s get this straight…this isn’t about a day-to-day activity of the CBC. This is about a political and ideological decision which my complaint (see here) to the CBC Ombudsman will assuredly expose and if Moore was doing his job for us taxpayers, I wouldn’t have to do it for him.

That’s a standard answer from James, we’ve heard it before, he doesn’t interfere with day to day operations of….fill in the blanks….. then he’ll add they operate at an “arm’s length” from the government. One problem, the money we fork over for bloated salaries of the likes of Mansbridge, which BTW we are not privy to know, is not arms length it’s straight from the palms of taxpayers.

I am with you on this one and have been from the start. Mininster Moore has proved over and over his incompetence as a minister, so we need to flood the PM’s office with our comments. We need to make it very clear that enough is enough and we expect the PM to act.

I don’t want any media outlet to be the handmaiden (propaganda arm) of the elected government. Your solution is worse than the disease! Action needs to be taken regarding the CBC but having the minister interfere with editorial content is not the kind of action that would be acceptable to me. The only government action is needed is to remove government funding regardless of editorial content or political stripe of the CBC. Canada does not need a ‘state broadcaster’ anymore than we need a state newspaper. Both are an anathema to a functioning democracy.

Try reading it again…nowhere did I ask him to interfere in editorial content

      Joe,

You may be on to something without realizing it:

Canada DOES need a state newspaper, and the CBC is the ideal organization to publish it!

The CBC’s new national newspaper will be a daily broadsheet, with opinions from all your favourite pundits and talking heads like Solomon and Mansbridge, etc. They’ll even have a ‘news’ section! (All “Politically correct”, of course!)

The paper will be delivered by another government monopoly – Canada Post – to all households across Canada, Monday through Friday. The side benefit, of course, would be that Canada Post will have something to deliver besides junk-mail like retail fliers, that being junk-mail newspapers!

The best news of course, is that it will all be produced and delivered ‘Free of Charge’! (The estimated ongoing cost to taxpayers will only be a few hundred million per year, after start-up costs of a billion or so are written off.)

Minister Moore, the latest ‘champion’ for the CBC, would probably want to make the announcement himself on the state broadcaster’s very own taxpayer funded TV news channel!

The Conservative government will budget the start-up and operating costs under the ‘stimulus budget’ for the foreseeable future.

Sure, billions will be spent, but hundreds of jobs will be created, and, like TV, the private sector newspaper industry simply IS NOT filling the demand from Canadians.

As Minister it’s his bloody job to ensure CBC’s and Heritage Canada’s policies are adhered to, and he hasn’t got a clue what said policies are. No wonder so many scary people get funding from Heritage Canada.

  5. E Mac Says:

As a straight shooter, we need to deluge the PM with obvious complaints with regard to Minister Moore and his slippery slope on the CBC situation. The SUN is more reputable and chooses to get the train back on track, as well as presenting the case of responsibility.
We Canadians ARE the CBC and therefore demand an explanation other than the familiar talking points of one individual, (his) which is totally unacceptable.
I have seen more action in a funeral parlour, as compared to his tepid response. Perhaps a bottle of EXLAX would help with “movement” towards a CBC solution, but does he retain the intestinal fortitude to do so?
No, so someone will have to do his job for him.
He is one of the most impotent ministers I have witnessed in a long time and should be dismissed for his bumbling incompetence and heads should roll at CBC central. The public sector would have seen him/them long-gone by now.
    Where do they get them?

  6. Liz J Says:

We’re not asking the government for anything anyone wouldn’t expect from a service they pay for when it comes to the CBC. I simply don’t understand why James Moore doesn’t get that and for that matter the PM as well, he is the Boss. After all, as Conservatives we expect value for tax payer bucks, nothing less and the CBC is carrying on seamlessly, shamelessly, and arrogantly in the changeover from Liberal government to Conservative government.

  7. Sean M Says:

One has to wonder whether Moore is afraid of the lefty extremists that infest the CBC. Why is Moore so obtuse, what is he afraid of. The CBC extremists have Moore well trained indeed.

  8. antfrm Says:

this bloated, incestious, leftist behemoth called the CBC is a scourge upon us – surely a simple defunding would do the trick, as they would have to actually compete, and perform their own surgery, or sink. James M is a toadying fool as he tries to equate “arms length” with an increasing forced taxation to support left wing bilge. – this is NOT what “heritage” is all about, and if James M had a patriotic bone in his body, he would recognize this
