How do you know when a 20-year-old Liberal is ready for the big show?

When they no longer give interviews like this to the Globe and Mail:

“His last serious relationship was with a Lebanese Muslim woman, also a Liberal. Mr. Paikin, who is Jewish, says they had many passionate discussions about the Middle East” (see here)

Regardless how smart someone is or who their parents may be, you can always tell when a person shooting for a position in the backroom of a political party isn’t a good fit when they crave the media spotlight.

Senate is now 41% Harper appointees

Being beyond getting into the debate on the quality of senators appointed by Stephen Harper except to congratulate Alberta’s elected Senator Betty Unger as one of yesterday’s 7, I was more interested in the numbers of Conservatives now sitting but the Sun’s David Akin had a much more fascinating statistic.

Akin ran the numbers on Harper appointees to date and how many will be in place by the end of his current government mandate:

“When they are sworn in, 43 of the country’s 105 Senators will be Harper appointees. By the time the next federal election rolls around in October, 2015, 62 Senators will be Harper appointees.” (see here)

The idea of 60% of the Senate being Harper appointees scaring the living bejeebus out of the opposition parties and their friendly media to start supporting Senate reform makes me very, very happy regardless who Harper puts in there.
