In a bizarre ‘apology’, the Toronto Star’s public editor Kathy English says that the story they ran on Russian President Vladimir Putin and PM Stephen Harper was “offside” but still tries to lay partial blame on the Prime Minister’s Office:
“On this, I learned something about the rather Byzantine manner of the PMO’s communications style. It seems to me that [reporter] Westhead didn’t grasp a code that the Star’s Ottawa bureau reporters have come to understand.” (see here)
Notice that there is no explanation from English as to why Star spokesman Bob Hepburn said that they were standing by the reporter’s story which the PMO had also denied (see here).
Swept under the carpet and of course no one loses their job.

Far left wing kooks have infiltrated and poisoned true journalism and now it’s the liars and frauds that run the show. They don’t know the first thing about being unbiased.
It’s all untruths all the time..

I guess the PMO stating flat out that the story was untrue wasn’t clear enough for the dullards at The Red Star.

Those of us who are in the know – know about these incidents.
Those who are unaware or don’t know – are the fodder for which the msm continuously hopes will agree with them. Either way the msm is wrong and will only admit – when caught red-handed but water down the incident for which they are responsible.
Yellow journalism at its best.

To his credit, Andrew Coyne lambasted the media today http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/01/13/andrew-coyne-on-gay-marriage-shoddy-reporting-and-cheap-politics-create-a-phony-crisis/

Yes, Coyne can sometimes take off his Liberal blinders.
The media seem to be in a state of frenzy trying to get going with a gotcha blitz. Jumping on the SSM and fabricating the hockey thing sure came back to bite them.

What a surprise…. another made-up story from the leftie press.
It’s truly amazing that they can print story after unfounded story like this and people will still buy or read their paper. Even when it is utter and complete fabrication.

You mean reporters eating each other’s turds isn’t journalism?
January 14, 2012 at 6:03 AM
The Tories just rained on the left’s perfectly good bout of paranoia and hysteria on Friday.
The Star had to retract one of their poorly researched articles (Putin/Harper) is it possible the media might now want to start actually – gasp – get their facts right first.
January 14, 2012 at 8:40 AM
reporters are trying to compete against each other to see who wins the liberals and ndp approval..
We already know that CBC, CTV, G/M and T/S all meet the ‘coalition’ requirements. already. They are all cloned into one mind thinking.

It used to be that the Libs and Dippers “just don’t get it.” But it’s obvious that their left supporting media propogandists still don’t get it either. When James “I’m voting Liberal” Coyne comes up with an article like that, you know we’re making headway. Cabinet ministers and the the PM can now speak out and remind Canadians about how this country was being co-opted by liars and destructive radicals.

I love the fits on the twitter feeds personally. That’s the awesome part of twitter for me… you get to see the personalities behind the crap and not-surprisingly it’s just what you thought it would be!
