Now that the NDP’s political fortunes lie so heavily on Quebec, the idea of leadership candidate’s Thomas Mulcair’s French citizenship is just fine with them even though 4 of their MPs including Jack Layton thrashed then Liberal leader Stephane Dion for his.
Jack Layton
“I would prefer that a leader of a party hold only Canadian citizenship, because one represents many Canadians, and for me that means that it’s better to remain the citizen of one country,” Layton told The Canadian Press.
“But for a person that isn’t in a position of representing others, holding dual citizenship is fine with us.”
Check out the other quotes (especially Pat Martin’s) on Brian Lilley’s blog here.

Didn’t take them long to forget Saint Jack.

You mean the media right?
January 17, 2012 at 10:06 AM
The media and it seems the NDP party itself. Saint Jack of Layton would surely never endorse an NDP leader with divided loyalties?

The Ottawa Press must be having trouble tracking down Pat Martin for a quote on Mulcair huh?

That or Pat Martin is suddenly bashful..*snork*

We’re hearing the sound of silence on this from the NDP MP’s, some of whom happen to be the biggest mouth pieces in politics. Don’t expect the media to bother with it, they’re busy scuttling up their next gotcha on PM Harper and his government.
January 17, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Yup,don’t forget the PM is traveling to China soon. They’re busy alright. Count on something phoney that they’ll dredge up. It always happens when PM Harper goes overseas like clock work.

Who let the cat out of the bag re this. Did he really think it could be kept secret. Did he make any comment re Dion or Iggy.

the media are either lining up for ‘sex ed with Sheila Copps or, could be taking dope as their beloved leader Rae wants to legalize it.
Either, or, the media are duped for years.

The wit and wisdom of “Jack” will only be trotted out by the MSM and the left when it suits the narrative. Somehow the NDP and the Liberals before them, think that duel citizenship is the way to promote Canada and Canadian values. Don’t much care about the passport of spouses – but PM, come on – get real. Next thing you know – you will be able to vote in federal, provincial and municipal elections without being a Canadian – oops – already a proposal by the left. Cheers.

Why is it that Canada always seems to have french citizens of the extreme left trying to seize power in Canada. Whether it’s Steve ( the rocket) Dion or Tommy (the beard) Mulcair doesn’t matter, if one aspires to be the leader of Canada there should be no doubt as to where you’re loyalties lie, and which country your passport belongs. One would think that an anti British bigot like Mulcair would know that, but then the hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds.
