Christy Clark said Harper “just like the separatists in Quebec”

The BC Conservatives are finally emerging from their stupor and are doing some nice press releases focusing on Christy Clark’s new chief of staff, the Conservative Trojan Horse, Ken Boessenkool:

On an appearance on Mike Duffy Live on CTV NewsNet on January 9, 2006, Christy Clark, appearing as a federal Liberal strategist said “Stephen Harper was the guy who thought that we should have a firewall built around Alberta just like the separatists in Quebec want for the province of Quebec. I mean, come on, they share a lot of views in common.”

Clark was referring to the “firewall” letter of January 24, 2001 that urged Alberta’s Premier Ralph Klein to “build firewalls” and to take a strong line against the federal government. The letter was also signed by Ken Boessenkool, the super-lobbyist who has been appointed Premier Clark’s Chief of Staff.

“Why did Premier Clark appoint a Chief of Staff who in her words ‘share[s] a lot of views in common’ with Quebec separatists?” asked John Cummins, Leader of British Columbia’s Conservatives. “Does Premier Clark still believe that standing up for provincial rights is the same as Quebec separation? Has she discussed these views with Mr. Boessenkool? Does Mr. Boessenkool now agree that signing the ‘firewall’ letter was akin to being ‘just like the separatists in Quebec’? How does Mr. Boessenkool feel about his new boss lumping him in with the Bloc Quebecois?”

“Yesterday, we revealed that Premier Clark was campaigning against Mr. Boessenkool’s equalisation brainchild, and now we can reveal she compared him to the radicals who want to break up the country. On what other issues do they fundamentally disagree?”

I’ll now await the BC media to wake from theirs.
