The idea that a journo’s national pride depends on what an utterly corrupt organization like the UN thinks of Canada is more than slightly nauseating and extremely telling.
The Star’s David Olive writes:
I feel ashamed to be a Canadian today.
One of our best friends, the U.N., exhorted us Wednesday to make our “land of plenty” a prosperous place for the unacceptably large number of us who are poor. (see here)
I don’t expect much from the Star although can you imagine taking advice from this guy as the Star’s “business writer”? My issue is the silence from the saner columnists who allow this kind of “I am conditionally Canadian” crap to go by unchallenged.
Is it because of the journo ‘code’ or is the answer scarier than that?
Also: Olive has called PM Stephen Harper “cowardly and a liar” in a previous column (see here)

Well, here is the option for Olive – Get a one-way ticket to one of the lesser known places and live happily ever after.
Bet he won’t do it!
The UN – Pfffffft!

Greece is looking for reporters.
May 17, 2012 at 11:04 AM
We all know that Olive would never say that to PM Harpers face..He hides behind the iron curtain of the rag he writes for and the scum that read the paper to keep it in circulation. He is the coward, because newspapers are cowards havens..Just like the bully who yells obscenities from the back of the crowd and then shuts up when confronted face to face by the person he is swearing at..These lefties are getting a good example from the idiot savant Mulcair..

I like Berie’s comment. I used to live in a small town with a weekly local paper. The new journalist from a city and fresh out of college was writing the page on local sports. The paper’s mamager unwisely gave him a small column of personal opinion. He made some pretty snide remarks about the local hockey team. He, no doubt thought he was being very clever and funny. The hockey team and many of the locals who were related or friends with the players were not amused and decide to tell him one night in the local pub.
When faced with something a little more physical than an angry letter to the editor smart ass reporter boy did some quick and weaselly backpedaling. After that his column was a little more tempered in it’s tone.

Took Journalism back in the 1970s; number one rule of survival is do what the editor tells you. My guess most of the grads today are taught by leftie professors who have not written for a major paper for years

He “feels ashamed to be a Canadian today”? Well good because I am ashamed that he is a Canadian!
He should take his shame and his ‘bleeding heart of convenience’ to North Korea or China and then try and write his type of BS about their govt (dictatorships).
What trash!
May 17, 2012 at 11:52 AM
You took the words right out of my mouth, Bec. Thanks.
May 17, 2012 at 12:15 PM
LOL! I’ve got your back, Alain!
May 17, 2012 at 4:27 PM
He should take his shame and his ‘bleeding heart of convenience’ to North Korea or China and then try and write his type of BS about their govt (dictatorships).
He will be imprisoned or probably shot.
May 17, 2012 at 11:46 AM
I’ll donate money to send him to Somalia, he can get a front row seat to real poverty and starvation that his beloved UN does absolutely nothing about.
May 18, 2012 at 5:19 AM
PM stood at the front lines when he went to Afghanistan to ‘experience’ what our soldiers have to go through everyday.
This Olive will find solace behind the ‘tower of Babel(CBC) than standing up to this freakshow de Shitter who has no pricking idea of how our great nation canada works.
May 17, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Wow, if Olive thinks the corrupt organization we know as the UN of today is among our “best friends” we’re in worse trouble than we know. Not surprising he would side with the twit from the UN, it’s the shrine for the Left and we all know the Left lacks the capacity for reasoned thought and that includes the TorStar a rag of and for the Left.
Speaking of Leftists, where is Mo Strong hanging about these days, still in Commie China?
May 17, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Olive is another Useful Idiot
May 17, 2012 at 2:24 PM
An idiot to be sure, though not very useful I’m affraid.
May 17, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Writing in the NP Full Comment, Hillel Neuer had this to say on the origin of the UN right to food mandate:
“De Schutter does not want you to know that Havana’s Communist government created his post, nor that the co-sponsors included China, North Korea, Iran and Zimbabwe”.
This fact in conveniently left out of most media reporting on De Schutter’s position in the Human Rights section of the UN.
All sponsors are shining examples of Human Rights advocacy and of course ample providers of food.for their citizens. I assume the TOStar is well aware of this, but thinks it unimportant to the story.
May 17, 2012 at 12:58 PM
The UN knob complains that Canada doesn’t have a national food stratagy. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe a few countries that do or did have national food stratagies are North Korea and Cuba and the former Soviet Union.

I think you are missing the big picture here. He is plagiarizing Heather Malice. Doesn’t she have that phrase trademarked
May 22, 2012 at 1:12 AM
Happy Heather the only journalist ever let go by the CBC for being extreme
May 17, 2012 at 1:14 PM
It would be more understandable if he were ashamed of being Canadian because our hockey team was beaten by the Slovaks;-)
May 17, 2012 at 1:45 PM
You mean redali didn’t even meet with the twit, after all she worked for the UN for years, and applied for citizenship in S. Africa.
May 17, 2012 at 4:31 PM
“He “feels ashamed to be a Canadian today”? Well good because I am ashamed that he is a Canadian!”
I completely agree,bec!
UN simpletons have great ideas with no thought to the consequences or how to implement the idea. HOW,does an organization or government provide free food to allegedly poor people? Does it drop from Heaven,or do they plan on stealing it from the producers?
Allah almighty, this is the type of rhetoric I used to hear among stoners in the 1960′s!
May 17, 2012 at 6:11 PM
Well if he needs help finding his balls, let him know I will help him look for them. What an idiot? He can go live at the U.N. (a wasteful and useless institution) if he is so ashamed of being a Canadian. No one says he has to stay here.
May 17, 2012 at 6:15 PM
I am tired of these pukes who dump on this country when the nation doesn’t bend to their will. Canada and Canadians never have and never will have anything to be ashamed of, our forefathers came here and carved out one of the most generous, prosperous and free country to grace this planet, work that we their descendants continue to do to this day. So who cares what some over paid, lazy bloated gasbag at the UN has to say? We have done well not heeding their advice in the past and will continue to do so in the future. If David Olive is ashamed of his citizenship why doesn’t he trade in for another one, here are some options for him: Iran, Mozambique, North Korea, Myanmar, Venezuela and so on, you get the point.
May 18, 2012 at 5:16 AM
Whoever in the bureaucracy let this pompous fraud de Schutter into Canada should be FIRED! He is not even an official of the UN.
Here is a good article describing why even the UN thinks de Schutter is a fraud.
http://blog.unwatch.org/index.php/2012/05/17/un-itself-thinks-un-rights-council-hunger-expert-is-a-fraud
UN itself thinks UN rights council hunger expert is a fraud
Published by
Hillel Neuer
“…Apart from his gushing praise of Syria, and the origins of his dictator-driven mandate, here are other key facts that UN Human Rights Council hunger expert Olivier De Schutter and his supporters didn’t want Canadians to know this week: …”
May 18, 2012 at 5:41 AM
People come and go they move to countries where they think and feel is suitable for them. If this Olive doesn’t like canada there are so many other countries to chose from: somalia, iran, syria, and so on. Nothing… nothing is stopping Olive from leaving. Lets see how fast he screams ‘blue murder’ to return to the comfort of canada.
Venezuelan Hugo Chavez treats his media with an iron fist they work for him and him alone. Reporting to the public of Hugo’s treatment of his own people is not heard nor televisied but, if any of those reporters do make that attempt they are thrown in jail.
How many airports and airplanes are there in Canada from which Olive can choose from? Take a pick and leave.
May 22, 2012 at 1:05 AM
Should be more ashamed that he earns a living writing for that Commie rag
