Globe allows commenters to laugh and ponder Harper’s assassination

Judging by the Globe and Mail’s comment section, it’s a darn good thing PM Stephen Harper now has a crack security team.

- Is there a “grassy knoll” anywhere near where he passes???

- Prime Minister Harper is not worthy of assasination…. Peter Van Loan, or any other reasonable facsimile, would do nicely in a pinch

- I heard rumours that there could be a contract out to kill Harper… a guy named Magnotta?

- Maybe Dear Leader will want his security detail to start wearing “brown shirts” because he saw another leader once had them

- Harper needs an SS

These are only a small sampling of what is being allowed on the Globe’s comment section for the story about Harper’s security detail (see here).

It’s one thing for the Globe to run these type of stories which are knowingly written as red-meat for the lunatic Left but it’s quite another to allow such vile and vicious comments.

There is no defence for a news organization to have open discussions about assassinating our PM on their websites. By giving these crazies a forum, they are potentially creating a breeding ground for someone to act.

It’s comments like this that could set off some kook who fantasizes about such things.
Reading such commentary is actually enough to increase security and give authorities a lead on where to look should anything untoward ever be attempted.

No one other than one with a sick mind would find humour going down this macabre path.

  2. Bozo Says:

I think this is where the “Hate Crime” legislation might be useful. Wonder who we would find in the ISP search?

  3. antfrm Says:

I have no doubt they will eventually succeed – our best PM in generations will be attacked by some version of this leftist mob, and the Globe will deny any involvement, and will tut-tut endlessly about the CPC almost asking for it – they are disgusting in the extreme, and should be sanctioned

  4. Pissedoff Says:

Since when was the Whine and Snail a news organisation? Must have been before I came to Canada in 1980.

  5. paulsstuff Says:

I think a bigger concern is why the Globe now allows Gerald Caplan and Brian Topp to write op-eds on a weekly basis, complete partisan writing with much false and misleading information, while never allowing a member of the Conservative Party to do the same.

  6. patsplace1 Says:

It’s the media party. Nasty bastards all and all without conscience. Encouraging such nut-bar stuff could easily be seen as promoting.

  7. WTF Says:

I have to say I think it is a good thing to have these slugs come out from under whatever rock they live. Instead of chasing down basement nazis the RCMP can pay these turds a visit. If you check another story at the Mop and Pail about Somalis in Alberta you will see the comments are not left wing at all. Not offensive like the comments you cite but as Ezra says unless it is againt the criminal code then let freedom reign. The moderators could just as easily censor these comments also. Freedom of speech has its cost and putting up with leftard idiots is one of those costs.

    • BC Blue Says:

Advocating assassination is not free speech

      • WTF Says:

They could just as easily say that they are utilizing irony or a dark sense of humour. We may not find it funny but unless it crosses the criminal code definition of inciting violence then who are we to censor. We can rebut or complain or forward our conserns to the proper authorities. Now if it violates the Globes code of conduct then they should be enforcing that. I don’t know if it does or not. I tend to agree that these comments are pushing the boundries but it is up to others to decide if they crossed the threshold of criminal intent. I would think that there could be a case made for that and without having read the Globes C of C I can’t comment on whether these comments violate that. I would think they do. An email to the Globe’s moderator is probably in order and if you think they cross the criminal code then an email to the RCMP would be in order. Also by raising this issue on your blog you are quite rightly seting up a forum for rebuttal and condemnation. Another strike against the Globe.

        • BC Blue Says:

The Globe knows full well what it is doing. You’ll notice comments that were deleted were done so after some of the “assassinate Harper” ones were posted. It’s all about increasing website click-rates regardless of vileness

  8. TrueGrit Says:

Hmm? I don’t know what the laws are in Canada, but in the US here, even celebrities get accosted by the secret service for the most benign comments. Leftists only know how to hate, yet claim they’re fighting it. “You are a son-of-a-bit** Warmonger, I’m going to kill you for it!” <— typical Leftist comments

Harper is a good guy from everything I know of him. Liberalism is dying, and the tantrum throwing Leftists want to destroy everything in sight because of it. In the US, polling shows Leftists are the minority, but they sure are the loudest and most bitter.

  9. Hi-Skule Garadge-you-8 -. Well, almost, eh?! Says:

Which talking head [past & current] spake thusly re: Conservatives?
“…Kill them! Kill them dead!!…” He’s presently a prominent yapper
    on CTV. Nice.
Wonder how many of these mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging leftards are actual gun-owners? They certainly appear not to have the knackers to go hand-to-hand. I s’pect that these cowards would prefer to have some sort distance between themselves and the objet of their crazed hate, along with his protective services.

  10. Alain Says:

The leftists once again confirm that they are pro violence and prone to violence when they do not get their way. I agree that there should be an investigation, since promoting murder is a criminal offence.

  11. brian mouland Says:

G@M sets the record for worthless, mindless trolls in their comments section

  12. Jen Says:

Why don’t the lefty media that are in bed with the ndp/lib coalition show their pride ‘redistribute their wealth to the public”

Didn’t Elizabeth May say ‘Canadians are stupid’ that includes the media?

  13. Dirt Says:

Perhaps we should be filing complaints with the CBSC????

  14. patsplace1 Says:

The vile and mentally deranged people that live in enormous concrete jungles and play by rules that are so far from anything natural comprise many, many that share from the leftist frame of mind…many of them adult children that live at home and spew disgusting crud when ever they get the chance, usually while alone, surrounded by concrete.

  15. Winnie Says:

Hard to believe that Canada harbours that many foaming at the mouth left wing moon bats. The police need to be looking into those threads and the G & Mail should be ashamed for allowing them.

  16. Bec Says:

It’s very sad when a once dynamo print medium permits barbarian misfits to post threatening comments. I care a lot that this was allowed to be directed at our fantastic PM but I would care no matter the political or personal stripe. There is absolutely no rationale that exists to allow an idiot (or many as the Globe seems to draw) to post this cr@p.

I guess other than to surmise that the Globe has become a ‘rag’ and draws ‘dirt, crumbs and slop’.

In summary, this person or persons IP address(es) should be exposed and this person should be treated accordingly. As stated above, this sort of comment would be treated as threat in the US of A and perhaps it’s time we quit treating these morons/bullies with kid gloves. There is a level of spouting off and there is a level of threat that exceeds that and unfortunately the freaks walk among us, look normal but are far from it.

  17. Sean M Says:

Cultural marxists want to rip everything down and killing someone they can’t defeat democratically is par for the course with these emotional, indoctrinated idiots. The Glob@ Plop shares in that twisted ideology and most likely take a perverse pleasure in these vile comments.

  18. CPC blue through and through Says:

The Prime Minister’s security is not as tight as it should be. I have had more than one opportunity where had I wanted to, I could easily have done him harm. I do worry that we are not protecting this man as well as we should be. Articles like these and their related comments could certainly give a crazy (or sane) person ideas. Mr. Harper deserves the dignity and respect of the office he holds. We should not make a mockery of the leader of our country. Let’s show some respect.

    • Sandra Harris Says:

Steve deserves some of his own medicine. Our parliament, the people of Canada deserve dignity and respect. Steve stole the election… he’s a fraud, a dictator and a corporate owned puppet. He can’t “hold” an office that he lied and cheated to occupy. He sold Canadians out for PROFITS! Leader???? Seriously???

I don’t believe in violence… wish Steve could say the same.

  19. Jen Says:

I can’t believe that embassies met secretly with the opposition party to discuss their disgust of the PM for not bailing out their countries. I find utterly insulting thereby a cause for concern.
    How dare they do such a thing;

Europe has gone again our products products that have been a life-saving for the Natives. Europe also lobbied against our oilsands and now this.

  20. mahmood Says:

You find the same heinous comments at the CBC. One advocating to “Oswald” the PM.

  21. Kim Says:

Hi there. I am one of those Leftards you like to disparage. I do not comment at the G & M or the CBC and I do not advocate murder or violence. Having said that, I have commented here because I am interested to converse not just with people of my own political stripe and think that Canadian’s need to get past this us v them sort of mentality. Are you willing to have such a conversation, without resorting to name calling and strawman arguements? Do you have an open mind?

  22. Kim Says:

Would anyone here agree that we need a better system of government, in some form of proportional representation?

Do you agree that Canadian Refinery and forestry jobs should take precidence over shipping raw resources overseas?

Do you agree that Corporate and Union money should be kept out of our political process?

    There’s a start…thoughts?

    • antfrm Says:

ah yes – PR when leftists are out (unusual) but the status quo when they are in – see anything here ? – refine locally when someone comes up with the gigantic megabucks needed to build same, but in the meantime export to gain the funds to keep our pricey safety net – corporate and union money out of the political process, but also out of all other forms of coercion such as right to work, religious matters, as well as stacking environmental groups, – and sundry government wastes like CBC and countless grievance groups
I prefer greater taxation on the individual (can be monitored every 4 years or so , to keep sleazy political hands off) – more like the Swedish model
In the meantime, stop the hatred, bashing, and calling for the current PM’s life to be ended, like petulant idiots

  23. Kim Says:

Well, your silence is deafening. Thanks for the open and honest debate.

    • Fay Says:

I live in Manitoba and would love a redo election. The NDP have a majority but got only 1% more of the vote??? I agree Kim, the silence is deafening and the left are hypocrites!

  24. Kim Says:

@antfrm. Is that the best you’ve got? Can you not answer my questions honestly? These are weak, strawman arguements, at best. Can you defend China’s undue ownership in the tar sands? And since when do Conservatives support taxes? Or the Swedish model of progressive democracy? If I recall correctly, your PM is directly opposed to that model of democracy. How do you reconcile that conflict of ideology? And why are you accusing me of calling for the PM’s life to be ended? Where did I say that?

    • antfrm Says:

So your straw man twist is different ? – we prefer the greater proportion of taxes to be out in the OPEN, where we can examine them on a continual basis (and lower corporate taxes as the Swedish model) – and which country just bought out Volvo and Saab (with all of their military applications) ? – and why do YOU not answer questions like why is PR not an issue when your darling leftists are in power ? – and why not condemn the extreme death threat rhetoric ? – open and honest debate indeed, ,,,,,,only on your terms I see.

      • Kim Says:

PR is an issue for me and I supported Cullen for the Leadership of the NDP for that reason, as well as his stand on pipelines and tankers. I already stated that I do not condone violence and murder. That was the first thing I said. When the NDP takes power (unless our Elections have been hopelessly corrupted by this Regime) I fully expect them to change our electoral process. I think the Party system is undemocratic and un-necessarily divisive. We are all Canadians equally, we all want to live and prosper in this amazing country. I was hoping that someone here might be willing to cross the Party divide and find common ground.
