After reading a story about NDP leader Thomas Mulcair saying he had a recent meeting with European Union ambassadors in Ottawa, and that they are not happy with the Conservative government, I’m curious what is the protocol of an opposition leader meeting with other countries’ diplomatic representatives?
“The Canada that [the Conservatives] are projecting onto the world stage is no longer recognizable to our many partners around the world who have always admired and worked with Canada, and it’s no longer recognizable to us” (see here)
To “us” huh? Meaning Mulcair and the EU ambassadors apparently.
The optics of Mulcair trying to undermine our duly elected government by sitting around criticising Canada with EU officials is disturbing to say the least but has he also broke diplomatic convenant in doing so?
