Liberal leadership candidates making secret payment deal with Elections Canada

Can someone please tell me how after 6 years and 2 extensions on their leadership debt repayments, Liberals Martha Hall Findlay, Joe Volpe and Hedy Fry are now:

“working out some kind of a compliance arrangement with Elections Canada” (see here)

The Election Act is very clear calling for a $1,000 fine or a three-month jail term for unpaid expenses, so why isn’t Elections Canada enforcing the law?

Update: Election Canada huffs and puffs but does nothing (see here)

Funny how election canada is dragging it foot on this while going after conservatives big time over some so called wrong doing. And MHF is thinking of running again.

    DEAR BC BLUE,

THE DEL MASTRO CONTROVERSY WAS THE LAST STRAW FOR ME. ELECTIONS CANADA HAS NO CREDIBILITY AND CONTINUE THEIR CORRUPTION WITH IMPUNITY AND ARE DEFINITELY WORTHY OF COMPLETE DESTRUCTION. START AFRESH IF CANADIAN’S THINK ELECTIONS CANADA IS STILL WORTH THE COST. AGAIN, IT IS A CORRUPT AGENCY. WE ALL KNOW THIS. AND IT IS SUCH A SURPRISE THAT THE LIBERALS WHO LOST THE LAST ELECTION OR THOSE OTHERS WHO OWE MONEY HAVE NEVER BEEN CONFRONTED BY ELECTIONS CANADA, AS ANY COLLECTION AGENCY WOULD, TO PAY UP, NOW! NO, IT IS A HIGH PROFILE EXAMPLE OF THEIR CORRUPTION THAT IS AS DEEP AS THE OCEAN. STOP COMPLAINING. KILL OFF THE AGENCY!

Anyone think EC is applying different strokes for different folks allowing rules to be bent to accommodate Liberals?

  4. Alain Says:

How could there be any doubt about the dept of corruption in EC? If they refuse to apply the same rules to all regardless of party, they need to be turfed now.

  5. TangoJuliette Says:

EC just might have a shot at some token degree of quasi-redemption if, and only when:

Mayrand’s partisan EC minions conduct a raid on the offices, residence and premises of Dryden, Hall Finlay, Heady Fry and Volpe – after first “leaking” notification of the upcoming raid, to key personnel in the media, so that full camera coverage might be obtained and recorded for the next 14 news cycles.

I imagine that Ezra, John, the A.M. Goofenator and the Toronto Sun News team are just salivating for this sort of an opportunity to present itself. Nest ce pas!!?

SIX YEARS . . . and these yuzes still can’t pay of their elections campaigns? Life sure is tough for Librano hacks when they don’t have access to the federal purse-stringe, eh?

This whoel story presents a very interesting counterpoint to Toronto Sun’s Warren Kinsella an this morning’s contention that once Harper is gone, the Libbers are just gonna come stormin’ back into power. Methings that bro. Kinsella doesn’t truly relaize that Harper isn’t a Liberal.

Warren hypothesising about when, if, why winner Harper will, might, depart the political stage: “…He will, eventually. He is not a wealthy man. He is not too old. Multiple corporate sinecures await, along with lucrative speaking engagements and honourary degrees. In private life, he will be held in high regard, and he will be rich beyond imagining.”

Perhaps what Kinsella does not, perhaps cannot appreciate, is the possibility that Harper, unlike most Liberal pols, did not enter politics to “get rich.” Perhaps one serves, because it’s the RIGHT thing to do.

If, and when, as Kinsella wishes and hopes, there is a possiblity of Conservative fortunes declining after Harper steps down, chances are better than merely good, that Warren, myself and a whole bunch of other “young” buckaroos are going to be firmly ensconced in those Geo. Smitherman long-haul, Heavy Duty Senior Depends, when Steve does the Step Aside Shuffle. There’ll be decades more before any semblance of a liberal ndp rogressive threat looms on the horizon, after that.

News Alert To Martha Hall Findlay

    What !!
    You want to run Again?!!
Listen Martha dear…Seeing as you can’t afford to pay off your previous leadership debt…how are you hoping to pay off your future one?
I’ll let you in on something Martha…
    You have no creds… period.
Why you ask?…its simple…politics is about connections…its about who you know and who you influence…who you can inspire to believe in your cause…enough so to volunteer for you or back you with donations.

Since you are carrying delinquent debt from six years ago…then be realistic in realizing that you …
    a) You have lingering debt…which…
    b) Should have been paid back long ago…which…
    c) Proves you have no serious backers…which…
    d) Shows that you have no perspective as to your abilities or who you are…which only shows that…
    e) You are a dreamer and not a doer…and therefore…
    f) Not a suitable nor serious candidate…which…
    g) Begs the question of Why …since you are a practicing lawyer, that you cannot afford to pay back your debt?

Martha…This is the big leagues that you are asspiring to…
You my dear show yourself not even ready for the Juniors…

There are many out here on this side of the political spectrum who question your logic.

Running a country is serious business…something you constantly prove you know little about.

Myself, I can’t help but judge people somewhat by how they handle their debt commitments…

    You fail miserably.

The most disturbing part of this is that EC doesn’t care about the poor optics that results frm bending the rules for the Libs. It’s not indifference, rather it seems they enjoy marinading in the hypocrisy their duplicity projects and enjoy poking their many critics in the eye at the same time. It’s almost as if they grant these extensions out of spite for us.

  9. CPC blue through and through Says:

So to whom do these leadership candidates owe this money? Why is it only a $1000 fine? Also, if they accept the fine do they walk away from the debt? How about 3 months in jail? You do the crime, you pay the time!

    • Jen Says:

How about 3 months in jail? You do the crime, you pay the time!
      Are you kidding me.
Wasn’t it a liberal who sent a western farmer to jail for selling his own wheat?

  10. Sean M Says:

Quick! Someone alert the dynamic dips##s, Maher and MacGregor… oh yeah… don’t bother. Imagine the stench of “outrage” the media would manufacture if any of these “Liberal” deadbeats were in fact Conservatives. The hysteria would be ceaseless. EC is a disgrace… obviously another bureaucracy mired in the Liberal created “culture of corruption”, dutifully ignored be the media. What will it take for that corrupt organization to be dealt with?

  11. Jen Says:

Since the media refuses to talk about the liberals failing to repay their EC debts since 2006 spread these:
-Ex-Liberal leadership candidates hope to strike debt-repayment deal
    http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2012/07/30/20045281.html
-Failed Grit leadership hopefuls stuck with debt
    http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2012/07/31/20050016.html?cid=rssnewspolitics
on twitter over and over and over and over again.

Why haven’t the EC AND THE MEDIA NOT ON THE LIBERAL CASE FOR NOT REPAYING THEIR EC LOANS
yet a simply farmer who wants to make money for his family by selling his own wheat goes to jail for not following rules of CWB , yet the liberals who own money to EC walk away freely with excuses.

  12. Globe’s Galloway blames Conservatives for Liberals’ leadership debts but gets facts wrong « BC Blue: One BC Conservative's view on it all… Says:
