This must really hurt, and I mean deep-down inside, the anti-Conservative Media Party:
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission slapped the Guelph Federal Liberal Association with a notice of violation and a $4,900 fine over automated phone calls made on April 30, 2011.
The recorded message violated the rules by failing to state that it came from the Liberal party or MP Frank Valeriote’s campaign, and for not providing call-back information. (see here)
Conservative Party Deputy Director of Political Operations Fred DeLorey puts it best:
How many other Liberal campaigns broke Canadian telecommunication rules? How many used robocalls to mislead Canadian voters?

Just heard CBC news with Carol McNeil, she had a CBC reporter on and she led off with the comment that Robocalls on their own were not illegal, however, the way the Liberal Guelph riding used the robocalls were. Question How come when the Robocalls originally hit the airways did CBC not use this same analogy but just ran with the headline Conservative Party of Canada stole election? Please review CBC report with Carol McNeil at noon.

Note that it is not Elections Canada, but CRTC who has laid this charge; EC could still do so if they wish, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Valeriote was the darling of the political junk shows on both main networks, his riding was the hub of the whole story, they wanted it to be pinned on the Conservatives. The rags are reporting it but don’t expect Valeriote will be sought after or the story will have the airing it would have should a Conservative have been or be charged. Remember how Del Mastro was mercilessly hounded without foundation and no charges laid? Apologies? Nah, forget it.

Keep this information exposed in the twitters because, CBC is doing their very best to smooth over the story to protect Valeriote.
And since CBC NATION caters to NDP and Libs, there is no way they are going to jeopardize their friendship so, be prepared for what they are going to say.

The Liberals are on a train involved in a slow motion wreck and not even the PPG/MSM outside with their hand on the junction switch can stop it. Ezra has a great show today. Wondering why Maher/MacGregor have nothing written on the Liberal candidate in Guelph”s conviction. The CRTC notified the National Post of this conviction August 23 and nothing in the National Post today???

Evan Solomon was surprisingly even handed today discussing the story with Frank Valeriote, and later with Steve Maher on the PP.
Valeriote looked very weak, his main excuse that the actual message was strictly above board and not misleading, brought the rejoiner from Pierre Poiliverve, about why the caller used a bogus name..
Even Solomon quizzed him on the legallity of this.
Later Solomon questioned Maher that perhaps the Liberals have something to explain regarding robocalls.

I’d say Solomon et al had no option but to deal fairly with this one, no room for conniving, it would be too obvious even to go for snide remarks. Just can’t give them credit for doing their job fairly, presenting the facts free of manipulation, that’s as it should always be but sadly a rare occurrence. No doubt it was a painful day for them.

Now that we know charges have been laid, fine imposed on his campaign someone needs to ask the smug and smarmy Valeriote we watched in taped interview if he considers his dirty tricks to be the same “neo-Conservative Republican tactics” he accused the Conservatives in his riding of doing? Sorry, but the man makes me bilious.
Rest assured this won’t get any more airing, he said it was an honest mistake, case closed. The folks in Guelph are welcome to him. If they vote Liberal in the by-elections next month giving McGuinty who has made a mess of Ontario the thumbs up they’re a lost cause.
