Newspaper’s editor runs as Liberal but kept working at paper

The publisher of the newspaper in which Liberal candidate Laura Redman works as the editor is whining about Conservative MP Barry Devolin’s boycotting the paper as Redman continued to work there after getting the Liberal nomination back in January:

Stephen Patrick thinks it’s his newspaper’s God-given right to receive ad money from the Conservative Party:

“It’s virtually unprecedented in the history of Canadian journalism for a powerful federal party to use its power to deny a small independent paper’s employees their right to work and their right to pursue their craft”

Patrick should take off his tin-foil hat and worry more about what it looks like when you have a managing editor campaigning as the Liberal candidate all the while still making editorial decisions at his paper.

Redman made a choice just like he did by allowing her to run and Devolin made a choice to boycott, deal with it. (see here)

    Any relation to Karen Redman?

I see the Liberals are crying foul again, claiming plagiarism over the new Conservative ad. I think Ignatieff’s might be a better example, stealing from Obama and using his dead mother to boot.

Any possibility by making this public he could loose more non political advertising or subscribers.

  4. Ontario Girl Says:

Sounds like Peter Mansbridge from CBC. He was out in Vancouver which was in Ujjal Dosanjh(Liberal) riding reporting negativity against the Conservatives back to THE NATIONAL. Right now they are on THE NATIONAL singing the praises of Iggy supporting the Quebec arena and running down the Conservatives because they didn’t support it. This country is infested with Liberals and most of them are on CBC and CTV and CPAC. The POWER OF THE MEDIA. The little guy can go to hell in a bread basket unless your LIBERAL.

This will backfire in Ontario, nobody I knew, wanted Ottawa to fund that arena in Quebec.

Where do some of those people get their dreams from, re the comments on the story. PMSH will nationalize all papers and edit them, and worse. Do they think anyone believes them except the tinfoil hat wearers. How sick are some people.

  6. Alain Says:

Talk about a blatant conflict of interest! I suppose these people think we lowly common citizens cannot see that.

  7. Brett Says:

These people are truly getting desparate and pulling out the stops. There is a danger that this could backfire on them similar to what happened in TO with Rob Ford. The PM just needs to stay on message; answeer there stupid questions by praising his own platform and not give them the sound bite they are looking for. Its working for Iggy.

  8. Bubba Brown Says:

Now if she had been a Conservative, how would that have played out? Of course all articles will be fair and balanced, right?

  9. Stan Says:

The ads must be good, the MSM hates them.

  10. john Says:

Aww come on guys news people have such immense ingrity (far more than we mere mortals) that of course she can run as a Liberal and still be “objective”.

And yet there are no editorials (from ANY PAPER)questioning her or questioning the Liberal party’s ethics in allowing this. No journalists protesting this conflict of interest.

But journalists aren’t scumbags . Oh nooooooo.

  11. john Says:

I love the first line of the story….”They say you shouldn’t pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel”.

I see the journalist engages in a blatant conflict of interest and the CONSERVATIVE is picking the fight???

So peasants, remember, never question your betters in the “news” media.

  12. Ron Says:

You should check your facts. She is on unpaid leave of absence. And considering the nonsense coming out of the Conservative camp you should be using Brown as your colour, as in Brownshirts. NeoCons or NeoNazis? Hard to tell. Not the party I used to be part of, that’s for sure.

    • BC Blue Says:

lol…please keep showing your support for the Liberals. I love the oft used “not the party I use to belong to”. Care to show us your old Conservative membership card?

    • john Says:

Oh please, grow up you idiot. Calling people “brown shirts & nazis”? Give me a break.

Same old garbage. When you have nothing else, call somebody a nazi.

“…..she said. “But I make $500 a week – I need that job to feed my kids.”

unpaid leave? …… but …. but Ron? What about her poor starving children?

This women pulls the age old gutless trick. When you get backed into an uncomfortable corner? – Hide behind your kids. – Real class?

  13. Mary T Says:

When did she take her leave of absence, that is the question.
And I doubt you were ever a conservative supporter. Good try.
Sort of like that idiot that got banned from a rally, read all about him at the Black Rod. Especially his comment, I am almost ready to go to Ottawa to take him (PMSH) down.
