Another “skank” appears sleeveless on Sun News

Well, we all know what the National Post’s Tasha Kheiriddin thinks (see here) of the women who go on Sun News not dressed in full business attire so I can’t wait for her column denouncing Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq’s choice of clothing.

Columnists say Ford not attending Pride “emboldens bigots”

I was going to ignore the ridiculous column by the Globe’s Marcus Gee who states that by not going to the Gay Pride parade, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is “legitimizing hate” and uses the sooo legit journalistic practise of on-line postings as evidence (see here) until the National Post’s Chris Selley piped-up here.

Selley doesn’t think the “legitimizing hate” assertion is correct but does agree that “it’s certainly true, as Gee says, that his stance is emboldening bigots.”

So then, I put it to Selley that by using this logic, any politician who says doesn’t attend a pro-Israel rally is guilty of emboldening Jew bigots?

Government bureaucrats admit hating Harper

First we had the Globe’s John Ibbitson admitting that there is a group of Ottawa Press journalists who hate Harper (see here), and now we have this column from International Affairs professor James Ron who writes about the civil servants he personally knows and their feelings about Harper and Conservative government policies:

“For some, the most painful of Stephen Harper’s policies was Canada’s handling of the alleged torture of Afghan detainees. For others, it was his odd support for radical Zionism, his opposition to gender equity, or his policies on third-world maternal health, an international ban on cluster munitions, or on climate change. Most of the civil servants I knew detested at least one Conservative policy; many hated the entire package.”

We all knew this was true but here is someone deep-in-the-know declaring it openly. (see here)

Interpretive dancer Gillis calling for boycott of “hate fuelled” Sun News

Isn’t the arts all about free speech in one form or another? How then does Margie Gillis justify asking her fellow artiste supporters to not only fill out an on-line complaint against the Sun’s Krista Erickson (see here) but also boycott their corporate advertisers going so far as to provide a contact list?:

(see Gillis’ Facebook page here and maybe send her a message of your own)

How to stop Sun News TV and their hate propaganda

Hi Everyone!

Once again, let us tell you how much we appreciate all the support you send our way!

People from all over the world and from all walks of life have been expressing their outrage at the hate propaganda which keeps coming out of the Sun News TV network. Many of you also ask what can be done to put a stop to such biased, unprofessional, contemptuous “journalism”. In spite of all the letters sent to the station by the public, things have only gotten more vulgar and more contemptuous since June 1st.

This type of attack is designed to fuel hatred and create enemies. It does not create bridges nor does it assist us in understanding each other’s point of view.

However it needs to be dealt with as it has far reaching implications. Here are a few easy things you can do to help:

  • Do not watch the channel (the more attention they get, the meaner they become).
  • Notify its advertisers (you’ll find a list  and contact info below) that if they support the channel, you will BOYCOTT their business. This is particularly effective with profit-driven entities such as Quebecor, owner of Sun News TV.
  • Fill out an on-line complaint form on the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council website (  ) – very easy and quick to do. You will be informed by the CBSC of the developments regarding your complaint.

Here’s the basic info you will be requested to input:

Television Station:       Sun News TV

Name of the program and on-air person involved:

Canada Live with Krista Erickson

Date of Program:         June 1, 2011,

Time of Program:         approx 4:15PM

Specific Concern:         You will detail the reasons for your outrage: ,

The following link leads to the Canadian Broadcaster’s code of ethics you might want to refer to. Clauses 5 and 6 are particularly relevant.

and the usual personal information needed to get in touch with you such as address and e-mail address.

  • Please know that writing to Ms. Erickson directly will only excite her even more.

Be brave, be clear, be compassionate,

All our best wishes right back to each and every one of you!

4100 complaints filed against Sun News’ Krista Erickson

Sure like to know how 1000’s of broadcast standards complaints are filed against one news show host about one segment without a mass organized effort. After painfully listening to this interview, I’m not even close to knowing how 4100 people could all have found it so offensive that they would all have run to their computers and done the exact same thing.

Curious if any art grant money was directly or indirectly involved organizing these complainants?
