Sun’s Lilley questions documents used by Postmedia’s McGregor & Maher to ‘expose’ robocall scandal

Sun News’ Brian Lilley asked for and obtained the same documents that Postmedia’s Glen McGregor and Stephen Maher used in their initial story about the robocall scandal and was less than impressed with them:

“While it does mention calls from people claiming to be from Elections Canada and misdirecting people in Guelph it doesn’t really shed much light on the subject that was not already known” (see here)

Hmmm, interesting huh?

And for what I see as the biggest garbage story so far on this, check out what the National Post ran today here

The National Post / Post Media are really gunning this bogus Scandal

    • BC Blue Says:

Yes and meanwhile pretending that they aren’t as ‘bad’ as other newspapers. This is from the NP’s editor Jonathan Kay:

“Toronto Star’s push to keep Robo-call issue front and center includes burying Vikileaks on page 7”

  2. Alain Says:

I strongly suspect that the motive behind all this is to claim that the CPC is not the legitimate government, having stolen the election much like the Left did with Bush. They think they can now finally smell blood and it is driving them into a frenzy.

The end game is to have by-elections to reduce the Conservatives to a minority, appeal to the GG that the opps form a government with the expectation that the GG would say OK. IMO voters are too smart not to see this coming down the pike. At the mere thought that the NDP could gain control of the country (and they would due to a plurality of seats over the Libs), centrist voters would flee the Liberals and the NDP, and vote Conservative. This would in fact increase Harper’s majority. I have a feeling Rae and the Liberals have already read the tea leaves. If I’m right, they’ll lay off and let the investigation play out.

Interesting that Lilley points out that it was *also* McGregor that started up the “in & out” nonsense, that all parties utilized to some extent, under vague Elections Canada rules. How convenient that he left out of his report, on the breaking of this ‘scandal’, the line in the Elections Canada report that said ““There was no conduct reported that would bring into question the integrity of the election result overall or the result in a particular riding.”
Seems to me that McGregor is spending his days doing anything he can dream up to bring down Stephen Harper, and the left-wing media (ie, other than Sun) is waiting to eat up every bit of crap he can supposedly unearth. Luckily, more and more Canadians see these faux scandals for what they are, and are turning to Conservatives in bigger numbers each election.

    • BC Blue Says:

McGregor cut his teeth at Frank Magazine remember and was also the one trying to dig up dirt on my private life in an attempt to stop me from criticizing him.

  4. Bec Says:

Is McGregor the ‘Ghost Writer’ for the entire Canadian Media Party. All the same, nothing original, similar indignant outrage and pieces to the puzzle conveniently left out?

  5. Steven Says:

I could not beleive my eyes when the NP had a picture of Harper beside Richard Nixon today,
this whole Robo thing is juvenile and out of control.

Post Media has a definite anti conservative agenda and are not balanced, they are just as bad or worse than the Globe and Star.

    • BC Blue Says:

You have the image of that picture? I found it…

      • Blame Crash Says:

I’m not complaining. The more they pull stunts like this, the more they show their underhanded sleight of hand with the facts. It undoubtedly excites the left wing partisans but it also causes a lot of people to shake their heads at these media frauds. They hurt themselves with this.
It makes you wonder why? There’s a back story to all these shenanigans Are they put out because Sun TV was allowed to exist? Is there a possible budget cut that will seriously affect the Toronto media creeps? Something is going on.
        It makes you wonder!

      • Liz J Says:

That’s the final straw for me, the National Post will no longer be delivered to our door.

What gets me is the way the entire opposition and the media party are all intent on smearing the Conservatives without solid evidence, running off at the mouth half-cocked, not a straight shooter among them.
The performance in the HOC QP by the opposition is a disgrace, far off base and out of control.

        • BC Blue Says:

Email them and let them know why you are cancelling

        • Jen Says:

Lizj, when we first got the NP, they ran good articles, but then the price went up. We got phone calls from them to see if we will renew our subscription but said no then they lowered the price but still, we said no. It is a good thing that we didn’t renew .

  6. Fay Says:

The national Post comment section has definitely changed since Andrew Coyne moved from MacLeans to the National Post.

  7. Blame Crash Says:

As per usual, the Lying Lib Leftist will always point their crooked little finger at others and accuse them of what they themselves are especially guilty of. That is what is going on here. They are insinuating that the Conservatives were engaged in a massive campaign to disenfranchise voters and yet here they are in a massive campaign delegitimizing the millions of Canadians who voted Conservative.
This is another battle in the culture war that is being waged by the journalistic frauds in the Toronto media and their political toadies in the Liberal and NDP Party’s and it’s directed at undermining your ability to have a say in this country. It is they who are a serious threat to democracy.
After all, these are the very same thieving characters who attempted to steal the 2008 election with their coup attempt. They are the very same plotters who have skinned and gutted democracy within their own party and are now attempting to do the same to all of our democratic traditions.
These are also the same ambushers who figured they had the Conservatives pinned to the mat with all their bogus accusations before the last election. This surprise attack by those bushwhacking recidivists will end up the same way. The counter offensive (AKA : the Truth) is coming.

  8. Ontario Girl Says:

PM Harper asked the coalition today….”Where’s the beef”. otherwise he said its the usual smear job the Liberal party are famous for. He also said thats why Canadians voted for the Conservatives and put the Liberals in the third party. I think it was Dean del Mastro that read that part from Elections Canada about them saying there was nothing there. He also told showboat Angus that on Monday he said he had nothing. He also brought up the Joe Volpe dumping green party literature out of mailbox’s and where the Liberals got CHARGED for damaging Conservative election signs. Things were coming out so the coalition changed the channel. Even Mildewski told Mansbridge last night that they had NOTHING. PM Harper said it was nothing but a smear job because the opposition can’t take it because they lost the election and put him in charge of running the country. I am sure the media will cherry pick his answers for the news tonight. Can’t get any truths out there to shade out their lies.

  9. Maryls Says:

I thought the Post is pretty balanced on thise. The article you link to is mostly informational about what is being said. If you read carefully, the details actually weaken the case against Conservatives. Ivason,s column was very good. Other papers are offering Hang the Conservatives” opinion pieces as front Page News. — only adding to the confusion.

  10. Ontario Girl Says:

Also if anyone goes back and reads any columns done by Maher, they are all negative against this Govt and PM Harper.

As to edit, if you have the link to this please let me know but until then can’t allow it to be posted. Thanks Dean

  11. National Post ran story based on false riding list provided by Liberals & NDP « BC Blue: One BC Conservative's view on it all… Says:

[…] unaccredited story in the National Post (which I called the biggest garbage story so far here) listed 57 ridings “targeted” by robocalls during the election has now been discredited […]
