Minister Moore hires Conservative candidate on taxpayers’ dime for partisan purpose

There have been plenty examples of politicians’ sleazy usage of public money over the years but in recent memory none are more blatant than what Heritage Minister James Moore has been caught doing.

Moore has put ex-Conservative candidate Saulie Zajdel on the government payroll to “shadow” Liberal MP Irwin Cotler which Moore was dishonest about initially:

After several months, Heritage Minister James Moore shared some details, explaining Mr. Zajdel works in his Montreal office as a non-partisan liaison with local multiethnic communities. (see here)

This is complete BS. It’s beyond disgraceful for Moore to have hired this failed candidate so he can ‘campaign’ for the next 4 years paid for by the taxpayer. If the Conservatives want this guy then they should be paying his salary.

I certainly hope that PM Stephen Harper wasn’t in on this unethical hiring and to shows us that he wasn’t, should immediately fire Moore.

Update: Zajdel bragged about working for two ministers:

“I’m going to be working under Christian Paradis, minister of the Montreal region, and Canadian Heritage minister James Moore in the Ministers Regional Office in Montreal” (see here)

Update: Paradis has been found to have been in a conflict-of-interest for setting up talks in his previous ministry with Rahim Jaffer (see here)

Update: Zajdel has now “resigned” (see here)

Is Moore begging to be fired?

This is not the sort of government so many have fought and laboured for, exactly what was going through Moore’s head when he hired this guy on?! Oh right he was just doing what he was told to do.

I amnot a big fan of Minister Moore but I fail to see what is wrong with hiring a Jew to liase with the Jewish community in Montreal. This is an important community Should he hire an Arab?

Moore never fails to embarrass me as a Conservative, why isn’t he stripped of his status and placed in the nose bleed section?

Where in the article does it state that the talk was paid for by the government? Saw lots of “off the record” etc. The media are sure busy these days collecting crap to look like something is illegal. Every day National Newswatch has a new guy to smear. Yesterday it was the speaker….bla bla bla. I don’t believe the Govt. is doing anything here thats wrong???? The media seem to be trying hard but the story doesn’t add up. Just because he’s a failed candidate, does that mean he can’t work for the Govt. News to me.

Can we assume Moore and all other Ministers have guidelines to follow and if they stray someone in the government hierarchy will catch up with it and take action? If all Ministers are free wheelers and the PM is expected to take responsibility for their actions you have to assume he’s aware of what’s going on.

This is the same minister who is a big fan of the CBC even when the CBC continues its war on the same government of which he is part. Frankly I never could figure out what he is doing in the Conservative Party.
