Christy Clark loses first MLA. How many more to come?

BC Liberal John van Dongen has just announced he is ‘crossing the floor’ to the BC Conservative Party.

From van Dongen’s House speech today:

To this day, Mr. Speaker, there are still serious unanswered questions regarding the writing-off of 6 million dollars in legal fees in the BC Rail case contrary to government policy. Questions I have been asking for a year-and-a-half, and questions the Auditor General is seeking answers to through the courts.(see here)

I had written last March that he was in conversations with the BC Conservatives to jump ships and was idiotically called a “conspiracy theorist” by the BC Con spokesperson who I believe has since been removed.

Van Dongen was very unhappy with Clark winning the Liberal leadership so it wasn’t much of a surprise that he was talking with the BC Cons and has made this move now as Christy Clark was backing another candidate to take van Dongen’s nomination away from him.

Regardless of all the animosity between Clark and van Dongen, this is a huge coup for John Cummins and the BC Cons and a devastating blow to Clark and the Liberals.

How many more will be leaving this sinking Liberal ship may be the only question now and if I was a betting man, I’d put a wager on Randy Hawes being next.

I wonder how many blows Clark is going to have and how long will the party to able to sustain this. I know many that it will be a long before they ever vote for the BC Liberals again.

Good. Hopefully there will be more to come. Time for the Corruption Party to bid its goodbyes, please.

I heard of Van Dongens defection earlier today and was quite pleased, to say the least. The corrupt Kristy ship is sinking!! Like you Blue, i hope we see more defections and also hope the BC Cons are careful whom they bring over. Van Dongens statement regarding 6 million dollar payoff to the fall guys in the BC Rail scandal is an incendiary indictment of the whole fiasco, and about bloody time someone associated with the Government had the guts to say so. Kristy is going to find out that the cover-up is sometimes worse then the crime… what a power mad fool she is. Great news!! The media are going to have a difficult time ignoring those BC Rail statements.

I like how Rich Coleman played the passive aggressive, trying to frame this as symptomatic of ‘personal issues’ and that he’d been ‘concerned’ about Van Dongen for some time.

The Liberals will frame this as a personality conflict by Wednesday or so, and attempt to brush it aside with the help of their friends in the media. I really hope the Conservatives have another defection ready for the end of the week.

Exposes Coleman for the classless person he really is

A classic, old school Soviet/Chinese Communist psychiatric smear of a political dissident’s mental health and personal reputation because they dared to question the Politburo and Pravda.

  5. Roy Says:

I told you that people will start defecting. so does that mean that vandongen sits in the legislature as the frist sitting BC conservative. I hope others start to go to. I bet the B.C Conservatives will be the official opposition with a minority NDP or a conservative Government with a opposition ndp.

Well Dean…this is truly good news…if the LSM want to play Dopey to Snow White Christy…well have at it ! This should be the crack in the levee and now we get to anticipate the breakdown.
    Whoa…should be a flood !!

…and yes BC Cons…Do be wary of who you accept from the train wreck. Its easier to avoid a costly error than to do damage control.

Yes…this piece of news made my day!

Rich Coleman is only interesting in keeping the gravy train going.

he was warned by the RCMP about the escalating Gang problem in B.C., back in 2004
and told Municpal Mayors to apply for funding thru Safe Streets & Safe Schools Act.

  8. Roy Says:

well I hope they vent who ever comes in to the conservative make sure there back ground checked so neither the media or the opposition can’t use ammunition. I would love to see john cummins become leader. I hope he gets along with harper to.
I know you need four people but I hope 3 moredefect so they can be official. and start getting funding.

It would be refreshing and heartening to see beautiful BC get it RIGHT for a change.

  11. Hans Says:

So the first defection from the SS Christy which now has foundered on the “Ripple Rock” of the great BC Rail $6 million dollar heist.

Good on John Van Dongen at least he has his head screwed on right, nothwithstanding Rich Coleman’s ridiculous commentary about his ‘impaired’ judgement. Even a roaring paper bag drunk can see the money trail papered down the BC Rail tracks.

  13. Christy Clark looking to jump to federal Liberals before being pushed out by caucus? « BC Blue: One BC Conservative's view on it all… Says:

[…] Not that Christy Clark and her ex-husband Mark Marissen don’t probably believe that she has a shot at winning but the real benefit is that she can wriggle out without having to deal with a caucus revolt orchestrated by Kevin Falcon. This move to have her dethroned is very likely especially now that van Dongen departed leaving behind his BC Rail time-bomb (see here). […]
