Globe’s Galloway blames Conservatives for Liberals’ leadership debts but gets facts wrong

You just knew this was coming. The Ottawa Press Gallery is now being forced to finally acknowledge the Liberals who had broken the Election Act due to their leadership debts (see here) but instead of reporting honestly on it, take a look at how the Liberal friendly media are trying to deflect it back on the Conservative government.

Globe and Mail’s Gloria Galloway:

The former contestants are caught in a bind the Conservative government created by changing the law halfway through the 2006 campaign to prevent any donor from giving more than $1,100, in total, to candidates in a single leadership race. (see here)

Umm, except that the facts and dates don’t support this meme.

– The Liberal leadership race date was announced on March 19 2006

– The Federal Accountability Act, with the rule changes for donations, was introduced into the House of Commons on 11 April 2006 – only three weeks later

– Three of the four candidates announced their candidacies after that date:

Joe Volpe April 21

Ken Dryden April 29

Hedy Fry May 4

Only Martha Hall-Findlay did so before then (Feb 8) but there’s no way on God’s green earth did she spend all that money prior to April 11.

Also, the membership cut-off was not until July 4, the delegate selection started on Sept 29 and the convention started on Nov 29.

So, for Galloway to state that the donation changes came “half-way through” is complete BS as these Liberals all knew what the rules were or were going to be well before throwing their hat in the ring.

Another example of the Liberals, through their media cohorts, caught making up lies  and/or omitting the truth to avoid taking responsibility for breaking the law.

HARDLY SURPRISED AT THE GLOBE’S TAKE ON THIS THING. ELECTIONS CANADA/THE GLOBE/ THE LIBS ALL ARE OF A BAD BATCH AND INCESTUOUS.

  2. DAVID WEUM Says:

BUT, I HAVE A SNEAKER FOR MARTHA HALL – FINDLAY. AT LEAST SHE IS TRYING AND IS NOW IN VANCOUVER IN A MAKE WORK PROJECT AT A UNIVERSITY OUT THERE….AND AWAY FROM HOG TOWN.. STILL, SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE SOOOOO, I CAN GIVE HER A PASS. JUST BECAUSE.

  3. Robbie Says:

Is it mere coincidence that Martin Lawrence’s anti-Christian bigoted attack on PM Harper’s religious beliefs is followed by Gloria Galloway’s facile, Liberal inspired distortions of the truth?

  4. Liz J Says:

How much more pathetic can the Liberal media hacks get? It’s dumbfounding to figure the contortions the likes of Gallway et al will go through to make excuses and lay blame for their Liberal friends. Appears they’ve forgotten their basic training as journalists, something called reporting the facts, not spinning them beyond recognition.

  5. E Mac Says:

Remember readers, Galloway’s husband is a big liberal fundraiser for the party. How can she not be biased?
This little “gem” has been repeated incessantly. So many problems of fact and logic in only two sentences and they still don’t get it!

  6. RJ65 Says:

I am sure that the Liberal Party got wind of this change well in advance of the bill hitting the floor of the House of Commons. We in the public knew that something was coming in advance.

  7. Dirt Says:

Liberal media running interference, I for one will file a complaint if EC defies the court order and gives them an extension.

    • Jen Says:

Well Dirt, so far we haven’t seen the CBC’S books (ordered by a judge). as to how they are spending our money
So, don’t expect EC to do anything to the liberals. OR, to the NDP for taking money from the backs of innocent american union dues.
Anything connected to the Liberals federally are off limits by all medias. Look at Dalton, he comes and goes as he pleases blames others for his own problems just as Delacourt is blaming the Cons for the libs’ own.

  8. kootenaybob Says:

Ms. Galloway is sporting a very pretty hijab…

  9. Powell Lucas Says:

This sounds very much like another leftist mantra: It is Alberta’s oil that is destroying the Ontario economy and has nothing to do with the fact that the Liberals are led by an incompetent fool.

  10. Brian Mouland Says:

Used to make comments at G@M but it has become so out there its not worth reading anymore, what a rag!
