CBC quietly changes BS story about doctor’s diagnose of Chief Spence

cbc bs spence storyThe screen shot above is from the story that the CBC ran making it seem as if Chief Theresa Spence had been examined by a very concerned medical doctor.

One big problem – the CBC reporter (who isn’t accredited to the story) admits that this doctor has never even seen Spence:

Although Jones hasn’t treated or inspected Spence

Here’s the text of the original story:

As Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence continues her hunger strike, which has been on-going for more than three weeks, a critical care doctor says there is potential at this point for her body to begin breaking down at an alarming rate.

Spence has been on the hunger strike for 25 days in a push to have a meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper over treaty rights.

Dr. Gwynne Jones said it’s helpful that Spence is consuming hot fish broth during the hunger strike, but admits it’s not enough to maintain her health.

“There is no doubt that this is a phenomenal battle that her body is waging to try and maintain its life force,” said Jones.

“But unfortunately, it’s happening simultaneously with breaking down of muscle and lean body tissues that are fundamental to her energy production and to her immunity,” he said.

Although Jones hasn’t treated or inspected Spence, she said these can sometimes be symptoms of someone who has been malnourished for an extended period of time.

Aboriginals are ‘very vulnerable’ to hunger strikes, doctor says

Aboriginal people suffer many chronic illnesses that make them “very vulnerable” to this type of activity, Jones said.

Starvation and infection have been two main threats throughout human evolution and Spence is at risk of both, Jones said.

Jones said it’s Spence’s right to protest in this fashion.

However, he said as a healthcare provider, it’s difficult to watch her health deteriorate.

Jones said there isn’t an ethical obligation to intervene even if her health deteriorates further because it’s her right to take this action.

“The only reason to intervene is if she wishes it because this is her autonomy that we must respect,” said Jones. “I think it’s a tragedy that she’s having to use her autonomy in this way.”

Jones said at this stage she’s “very vulnerable” to surface infections in her lungs and gut, which can turn “rapidly fatal.”

The online mockery quickly ensued and it didn’t take long for a new headline and story to appear:

Not only has the story been changed without of course letting the readers know, I noticed that some of the comments from the 1st version look to have been scrubbed clean by moderators. (see here)

That folks, is what your tax dollar-paid news organization believes is accountability after it gets caught running a blatantly biased article.

  1. Bocanut Says:

Kinsella’s girlfriend also wants all comments about Spence in a Sun article scrubbed because they are similar to a 4 letter word (that she also used) posted by a blogger.
No wonder she believes that the “Soviet Constitution was the most beautiful in the world”

  2. andycanuck Says:

So the CBC is doctoring a story.

  3. Alain Says:

OMG this whole thing is one huge pile of BS from start to finish. I am sick and tired of the lie being reported and repeated that she is on a hunger strike. One could at best claim she is on a diet, although it sure as heck is not effective. Were there any real reporters left in the consensus media they would have called it the sham that it is. They also would be reporting the misuse of major money by her and her band council, and that they refuse to open the books to show where all this money went.

  4. mahmood Says:

The state-funded CBC moderaters are quick to delete comments referring to Spence as a phony or Trudeau a rat but calling Harper a racist or a fascist passes moderation with flying colors. A billion bucks down the drain year after year, when will Harper do the right thing and bury it.

  5. Fat Tony Says:

    Sell it now

  6. Ontario Girl Says:

Speaking of CBC, you should listen to Rex Murphy’s radio show Cross Country Check- up tonight. Listening to it for over 1 hour, and guests are Natives, people who started Idol No More, …anyone associated with the movement….one woman from Quebec who wants PM Harper to put X-PM Paul Martin in charge of the file. ALL PM Harper bashers except one person from Alberta who wanted to talk about Chief Spence and was CUT OFF. On right now is a “Guest” who is bashing Ezra Levant. Sounds like all the “GUESTS” are CBC employees.

PS Their one media person was Michael Den Tente…HARPER BASHER.SICKENING…take the 1 billion from CBC and give it to the natives, then you will have Paul Martins Kelona Accord. What a farce.

  7. Ontario Girl Says:

A two hour radio show by CBC Rex Murphy and EVERYONE supports Idle No More??????99%??? Even the emails. Go on line and 90% support isn’t for Idle No More. BC Blue…it would be hair raising for you to listen to the show on CBC…..I am SHOCKED….they are cherry picking who to have on the show….if you support Idle No More….you are on the show. CBC in action. They actually SAY guests are from ALBERTA. What a BS farce by CBC fighting for a cause against the Conservatives. What a propaganda show. I should know better then listening to it.

  8. dmorris Says:

A medical doctor who will comment on the health of a person he has never seen,is an utter fool. I find it quite incredible that a medical practitioner would make alarmist comments about a medical situation about which he knows NOTHING!

Perhaps the doctor is more interested in activism than in proper medical procedure.

  9. Peter Says:

Maybe Dr. Gwynne Jones is telling us is that if Chief Spence was truly on a hunger strike she would not look as good as she does. I tend to believe there is a whole lot of cheating going on.

  10. Stan Says:

They are pretty much in full censorship mode now, I haven’t been able to get a comment by the CBC censors for the last couple of days.

  11. Canwork Says:

    I agree! BC blue.
I think Chief Spence is putting on a good act that is intended to play on the emotions of Canadians. In my opinion, a bunch of lies and BS. People are fed up of their noise and demands. I say enough is enough. They have received millions of tax payers dollars and want more and more and more…..
