CBC’s Tom Flanagan has officially lost it

How the CBC will keep ex-Harper adviser/CPC national campaign manager and current Wildrose Party campaign manager on the air after this comment on child pornography will be interesting to see:

“On the child pornography issue … I certainly have no sympathy for child molesters,” he says in a video posted online.

“But I do have some great doubts about putting people in jail because of their taste in pictures. I don’t look at these pictures.” (see here)

Career ender…

Update: The Wildrose Party has now dumped Flanagan (see here). As I’ve said many time before, Danielle Smith made a huge mistake having him run their election campaign to begin with.

Update: CBC has fired Flanagan (see here)

Update: The Manning Centre organizers have pulled Flanagan from his speaker’s position

Glad those organizations had the sense to dump Flanagan quickly.

No matter what he said, as an experienced politico, he should have known better than to ever say anything about child porn that was less than a total condemnation.
I agree, “he’s lost it”. Early onset alzheimer’s? Creeping dementia? Or just sheer stupidity?

I don’t know what to say. He seemed to be pretty tired of his CBC gig anyway. I don’t know if he was being glib or flippant or just doesn’t give a damn anymore.

He said the same thing in ’09

The comment was made in response to a question being addressed to him at a presentation at Univ. of Manitoba. I think it was something of a set-up, but Flanagan was careless and now he will pay the price. What is too bad is that no one would pay any attention to anything he said or thought (even as an academic) if he did not have a close and public affiliation with Conservatives. Academics say outrageous things all the time (didn’t Ignatieff say torture was o.k.?) — but if you are Conservative you have to censor everything you say.

  3. Trudeau’s top advisor thinks child porn is funny | BC Blue: One BC Conservative's view on it all... Says:

[…] Principal Advisor Gerald Butts send out this tweet about Tom Flanagan’s child porn comments, Trudeau himself thought it hilarious enough to make sure people were aware that he […]

Justin can congratulate himself on being only a pale immitation of that other celebrity politician Silvio and his clown Beppi.

  4. Brad maynard Says:

Talk about a career that ends in a flash!!!! The only thing faster is light speed. Good bye Flanagan.

  5. Brian Mouland Says:

Amazing how the lefties have tied Flanagan to CPC but say nothing about his connections to the CBC and U of C.
