How much did CBC’s Evan Solomon charge college association?

The CBC’s Evan Solomon has been getting a lot of mileage out of the current Senate expense scandal but isn’t apparently nearly so open about revealing his own.

Solomon showed up in my neck of the woods to speak at the Association of Canadian Community Colleges conference in Penticton, BC (see here) so, as a publicly-paid CBC employee giving a speech to a publicly-funded group, I wanted to know if Solomon charged for his appearance to which I received this response from the ACCC Communications person:

solomon accc

I reminded this communications official of the ACCC’s mission statement which includes:

“Deliver on commitments and be accountable, consistent and transparent” (see here)

But instead of answering these simple questions “How does a CBC TV host “explore higher education solutions” exactly?” and “Did you pay Solomon for his speech and travel expenses and how much was it if you did?” I was blocked.

I’ll update when/if I hear back from Solomon.

Interesting answer. If somebody on the right asks a legitimate question they are asked to leave their politics at the door. It doesn’t seem that the same standards apply to the left.

This is exactly what is happening with the right and the left in the US.

Well if speaking at such venues it isn’t part of his job, the people who invited him should pay the tab not the people of Canada. Further, one would imagine there would be a host with similar experience in that are of BC who could have filled the bill as well.
Good luck getting any info as to salaries of any CBC “stars” who are paid from our tax dollars let alone what they get to make speeches. I wouldn’t pay one now defunct penny to look at Solomon let alone listen to him make smarmy speech.

    • BC Blue Says:

But you as a taxpayer did pay for Solomon’s speech…

      • Ian Says:

Yes and we also paid Justin Trudeau’s salary on those days when instead of being at work in the HOC he was off charging $30,000 at speaking engagements. Did he claim mileage and expenses on those days I wonder?

Indeed Dean we are all on the hook for the ah…”wisdom of Soloman”.
What does “tough but fair” receive in the way of remuneration from us the taxpayer?
Your tactics need work though, need at least a dozen others, yelling the same question over and over.
Wait outside his home from 4 am and hang over his fence.
Family members are fair game too and neighbors.
If you don’t get the answer you would like feel free to make **** up.

  4. Fay Says:

Wow, anyone else think it is time to hold Evan Solomon accountable? hypocrite!

  5. Jen Says:

Of course he is a hypocrite Fay, but that doesn’t bother him and why should it? He likes taking money from the general public.

  6. Woody Says:

Leaving my politics at the door, as requested, because you are so careful to invite non partisan people to speak at your assembly.

Both Justine Trudeau AND Strombo appeared at my university for a student union event. I’m pretty sure they didn’t fly to Winnipeg during winter out of the goodness of their hearts. This despicable practice is widespread and needs to stop.
