CTV’s Fife lying about Senator’s emails?

CTV’s Ottawa Bureua Chief is once again being accused of making up stories – this time it’s about emails Fife claims show two Conservative senators involved negotiating with Mike Duffy over his expense repayment:

The emails, seen by CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife, reveal that Harper’s former right-hand man, Nigel Wright, consulted with David Tkachuk and Carolyn Stewart Olsen – two senators who were overseeing what was supposed to be an independent audit of Duffy’s expenses. (see here)

Notice the operative words there “seen by Fife” because Olsen is denying her involvement:

Ms. Stewart Olsen denies the CTV report, saying she spoke with Mr. Wright often in the course of her duties, but was never told about any repayment plan. “I deny that I knew anything about Nigel Wright paying Mike Duffy $90,000,” Ms. Stewart Olsen told The Globe Tuesday. Mr. Tkachuk has also said that he spoke with Mr. Wright, but didn’t know about the deal to write a cheque to Mr. Duffy.

The CTV report, citing emails it did not publish (see here behind Globe paywall)

So, here we have yet another example of how Fife operates – publishes stories without showing any proof.

Also: For more stories in which Fife did this as well, see here, here, here, here and here

Both Conservative senators have now come out saying Fife is lying:

Tkachuk is out of the country and not doing interviews, but issued the denial through his office Tuesday.

“The conversation in question never took place. It is a complete fabrication,” the statement said. (see here)

ctv makes up stories all the time. their level of inaccuracy is incredible. I watch the news and my wife thinks I am nuts because I yell at the tv telling them they just lied because they are throwing out stuff that is just not true.

  2. E Mac Says:

Some authority should do an investigation of Fife – Mr. Clean, I doubt it!

  3. Liz J Says:

Blarney Fife better have da proof is da proof because if it’s proven it’s da real proof, otherwise he could see litigation.
Blarney and his fellow Liberal lovers in the PPG were dancing with glee when Jimmy Munson got tapped by his friend Chretien for a Senate seat, they were something else entirely when Duffy and Wallin were offered and accepted Senate seats from Stephen Harper. Why the double standard? Well, don’t answer, we all know why.

  4. Guffman Says:

How is Fife (and CTV) not getting sued over these seemingly fabricated stories?

  5. Ian Says:

The CTV is just as bad as the CBC with their blatantly biased unprofessional reporting. Robert Fife should write for The National Enquirer.

  6. Ian Says:

Still haven’t seen anyhing on CTV News.ca about their denials. What else is new.

  7. Bec Says:

It’s hard to appreciate anything that comes out of the PPG but it’s always been especially difficult to enjoy Robert Fife and his sour faced, grumpy, henchman political colleagues @ the CTV. The CBC has for quite some time been a write off when it came to unbiased reporting and good investigative stories so we depended on the CTV…..way, way back then until Fife became a staple.
    That’s when it changed.

Looking and sounding as though you just sucked on a lemon is not flattering and that is how I think of him and of course now, everyone who is a part of his CTV ‘family’. They’ve all been infected with ‘lemon wedge’.

  8. Bubba Brown Says:

    Fife has 0 credibility.

  9. Michael Harkov Says:

If Tkachuk says that it is a complete fabrication, one would figure that Fife would be shamed to provide his proof or consequently look like an idiot. The question is – is Fife even capable of being shamed?

  10. Sean M Says:

So Fife the maggot declares that he has “seen” the e-mails, yet offers no proof of his assertion. So then, if the alleged e-mails even exist, which I doubt, who is showing them to Fife, and why? Pretty convenient for Fife that he can smear Conservative Senators without any proof, wonder when Fife will smear Liberals with “suspicious” e-mails that only Fife has “seen”… maggot! I wonder how much Bell Canada is involved in directing Fifes witch hunt without evidence.

  11. Ian Says:

The Senators are denying any conversations with Nigel Wright yet the CTV has the nerve today to claim that they never reported that Wright was in conversation with these two Senators. I just read the article from Monday. Wow!

  12. Ian Says:

Just wrote to CTV to ask for an explanation for their denial. I don’t expect a reply though.

  13. lynn Says:

I don’t know if he’s lying or not. He’s implying. I want to see the emails and judge the context and content for myself without someone else interpreting and filtering. IS Duffy passing information to Fife through friends? That’s a relevant question. Fife looks to be on a fishing expedition, holding back information and waiting for a response; perhaps hoping that someone will trip up. IF Duffy is the original source; it’s a shot across the CPC’s bow. Of course, I’m not sure that Fife is the “friend” that Duffy needs either. Let’s see the emails.

  14. lynn Says:

I would add, that the others being “accused” should have the right to respond to the emails themselves rather than innuendo. It appalls me that they are not being given that option.
