Harper reduced freedom of the press – another Media Party myth destroyed

freedom of press

Unfortunately for the Ottawa Press Gallery and their provincial and local media brethren who whine constantly and consistently about how the Conservative government under PM Stephen Harper controls the media, comes the latest report from Reporters Without Borders that gives Canada top marks.

I’m sure this will be front page news for them.

Frankly speaking, I don’t think that the Ottawa Press Gallery give ‘rat’s ass about Canada and her presence in the world view. They, OPG, concern is for Justin liberals and NDP. which may I add, that the ndp in their resolution under Layton, is to
    ‘regulate the media.’

  2. Martin Says:

Very interesting, just don’t expect an analysis in the Ottawa Citizen or on Power & Politics. What would be interesting is to juxtapose this map with the UN Human Rights Tribunal. see how many members are shown in black or very serious situation. I notice that Cuba, darling of the Canadian liberal press club, is the only black country shown in all of Latin America. Who would have known.

  3. Rod Says:

Persecution of the press under Harper is a complete farce. The Media is still free to print/publish what they want, and they know it. The PPG ran the show during the Mulroney/Chretien/Martin years, and there were always individuals willing to leak them a story that they could use for their own benefit. That all changed when Harper became PM, and it drives the media nuts. Their hyperbolic reaction would be comical, if it wasn’t so sad.

The PPG miss the leaks and wining and dining. I agree with Jen, they don’t care about Canada. They don’t care about the fact we’re the envy of the free world on the economic front under the great leadership, quite a contrast to Obama down yonder. They’ve got a love-in going with the Pony who has the stupidity to say “the budget will balance itself”…….if that doesn’t kill his chances of leading the country there is no hope.

      • Jen Says:

I guess from Justin most wise words “the budget will balance itself” , I guess we can all leave our’ household budget to balance itself’

I remember when PM Harper was asked numerous questions to which he answered all. but, the next time when he was interviewed by the same reporters he (as much I can recollect) told them ” I read all your articles and found that some of what I said was misquoted……..” .
Instead of the reporters feeling proud that the PM read their articles, they seem to take it the other way around.
