Elections Canada also paying Sheila Fraser and Bob Rae big bucks to trash Conservatives

mayrand

Serves me right for stopping for lunch as Postmedia’s Glen McGregor beat me to my next blog post on Elections Canada paying people to speak out against the Fair Elections Act:

Former auditor-general Sheila Fraser could be paid up to $65,000 by Elections Canada for providing advice on electoral reform and co-chairing a panel that has met only twice.

Fraser was last year named as co-chair of a blue-chip advisory panel that is to give advice to Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand on supporting democracy and overhauling the elections system.

This week, she made headlines by emphatically denouncing the Conservative government’s Fair Elections Act, saying the legislation would amount to “an attack on our democracy.”

And that’s not all who received some cash to go after this bill through the media:

Her co-chair on the panel, former Supreme Court justice Ian Binnie, could earn even more, up to the $68,914.

Former Reform Party leader Preston Manning, former Liberal MP Bob Rae, and former Saskatchewan premier Roy Romanow are all contracted for payments of more than $34,000 over the three-month period. (see here)

That’s just shy of $500,000 of taxpayers’ money Elections Canada CEO Marc Mayrand has handed out when you add the $262,000 given to Harry Nuefeld (see here) for his part in this obviously preconceived gambit to attack the Conservatives and save his fiefdom.

Absolutely shameful.

How sickening, How long do we have to pay this blood sucking Mayrand for his “services”? Shame on Fraser, Rae and double shame on Manning for getting involved for this totally useless crap that serves no real purpose. I thought Romanow had long ago faded to black, guess they can’t help themselves when it comes to taking money for no value to the taxpayer.

Where can we file complaints against him using tax payer’s money to keep his empire intact?

The culture of corruption that infests EC under Mayrand is disturbing to say the least. Not sure how this latest EC attack could be seen as legal or at the very least ethical… stealing taxpayer money to payoff former politicians and bureaucrats to attack the Government is down right sleazy. It brings into question the ethics and convictions of all these payed off hacks. Mayrand is behaving like a gangster in what is supposed to be a non partisan position… disturbing.

Did you hear Brian Lillely’s who read a letter/email from a gentleman who wrote that he was an oberserver for the federal election in a aboriginal reserve in manitoba where 285 natives live yet 320 ballots cast. Where was Mayrand.
You are right Lizj, it is sickening.
Election Canada is corrupt and to change things are around to make it fairer do not suit these people.

I notice this story was in the Globe and Mail… but has been removed…. If it wasn’t for your blogs, how would the ordinary person know about this. Someone wrote that the CBC has a big negative article stating the Conservatives now want to the know the connection with Election Canada of those involved in the hearings, written with a very negative tone towards the Conservatives. Then it was written in a CBC article Fraser was only paid $1,000.

The Afghans don’t care where or how far they have to travel whether by car or on foot or how many IDs are requested from them ; just as long they ‘vote’.
In Canada, it is a huge ordeal for a very simply request- BRING AN ID.

  6. Jen Says:

The Afghan women who were once cast as cattle PROUDLY SHOW THEIR ID. Pride that DOES NOT EXIST WITHIN ELECTIONS CANADA. God Bless these Afghan ladies.

  7. Liz J Says:

There must be some way the Conservative Government can get rid of Mayrand for his obvious, unfair, blatant bias against them. IMO he’s a Weasel with a smirk to go with it that taunts the Harper Conservatives at every opportunity. It’s like saying I’m playing games, doing mischief, na, na, na and there’s nothing you can do about it. We could get a petition going, it’s not up to him or any tools he rounds up to make news or to dictate his views over those of an elected government.

All of these “employees” of Elections Canada are receiving gold plated pensions, are they not?
So here they are Double-dippin-blue -chippin’ squwack on cue rolling in the trough eliteist storm troopers for elections Canada, they are as biased as CBC.
As far as the Indian reserve vote every single one of the Natives has a treaty card, so they can get tax free whatever.

  9. Joe Says:

I can’t give unqualified support for the bill as it is written. There are parts that will likely come back to haunt us. However Elections Canada like most of the established bureaucracy seems like it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Laurentian Elite and their progressive mind set. Not sure how it can be done but it is indeed time for a MAJOR house cleaning.

I saw her piece in the Chronicley Hateful and couldn’t understand why she was wading into the issue, so if she was paid by EC shouldn’t the paper be legally obligated to report that before they reported her opinion as fact? Why is the media reporting consulting reports paid for by the taxpayer Via EC as news but not informing us that it’s paid for by us to benefit EC? Can I file a complaint against EC management outside of EC?

  11. Jen Says:

Didn’t Marc Mayrand change the election rules ‘AFTER’-NOT BEFORE the 2oo6 or 2008 federal election.
All parties were following the old rules ‘in out schemes and what have you. Marc Mayrand only accuse the conservatives of the IN OUT scheme and not the others.

Imagine, all employees follow the exact rule but only one employee is accused. Same here, ALL FEDERAL PARTIES FOLLOWED THE SAME ELECTION RULES BUT ONLY THE CPC WAS SINGLED OUT.

  12. Jen Says:

Quebec does not allow VOUCHING and 2 or more IDS is required. No one complains.
