The circus called the BC Conservative Party continues but an illegal act may have occurred in the latest embarrassing shenanigan – this time during their leadership race:
The current crisis began with an anonymous letter somebody sent to party members that was highly critical of Peterson. Some characterized the letter as a “smear.”
People on Peterson’s team responded by submitting an affidavit to the party’s board accusing a supporter of Dan Brooks, Peterson’s rival, as being behind the letter. A source said they also hoped to have Brooks’ party membership stripped, which would have allowed Peterson to win the leadership uncontested.
Brooks said he and his team had nothing to do with the alleged smear letter, something Peterson’s apology and the resignations appear to support.
Lying on an affidavit is a criminal offence:
131. (1) Subject to subsection (3), every one commits perjury who, with intent to mislead, makes before a person who is authorized by law to permit it to be made before him a false statement under oath or solemn affirmation, by affidavit, solemn declaration or deposition or orally, knowing that the statement is false.
Two people have resigned over this:
Both campaign manager Jeff Bridge and party director-at-large David Wilder resigned from Peterson’s campaign late last week, according to an April 4 email Peterson sent to the party’s board of directors. (see here)
So, besides showing once again they are not a credible political organization and no threat to the Liberals, the RCMP may be asked to get involved as well.
Update: These idiots continue to embarrass the Conservative brand:
