Star admits subscription rates crashed over Rob Ford coverage

Haven’t we’ve been told by the media there is an insatiable public appetite for 24/7 coverage of Rob Ford?:

Just don’t think that they will have learned their lesson – they know what is news and we don’t.

Did the Star expect support from the public for their obsessive stalking?
Totally out of touch with reality.

THEIR HATRED OF ANYTHING NOT STAR FRIENDLY OR IDEOLOGICALLY IN STEP WITH THE RED STAR OR THAT WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO THE STAR’S IDEOLOGY IS IRKSOME AND, AS IT TURNS OUT, EXPENSIVE TOO. IT LOOKS SO GOOD ON THEM. WILL IT CHANGE THE STAR? NO. THERE ARE ENOUGH JOURNALISTS AND THE LIKE THAT COULD NEVER CHANGE THEIR IDEAS. IT HARDLY CUTS INTO THEIR BOTTOM LINE. SO MANY TORONTO FOLK BELIEVE IN THE STAR’S DRIVEL AS TRUTH EVEN WHEN THEIR LIES ARE DEMONSTRABLY FALSE. NO WONDER THE PROVINCE IS BROKE.

They are probably the best example of what’s wrong with the MSM and the deterioration of neutral unbiased reporting. With the sale of their Harlequin Romances they are now selling the furniture for survival.Looking forward to kicking another free Saturday driveway edition into the gutter.

  4. Lore White Says:

No wonder Rob Ford has a problem. Just think if you had people chasing you 24/7-365 days, what it would do to you mentally. I feel sorry for the mayor as the media, have chased and ridiculed him since he said he would originally run.

    • Jen Says:

I am sure people took bets like “I bet you $$$$ that TS front page news is Rob Forb or I bet you that we don’t see the story on Joe Fontana in the front page. I bet you Wynne/Dalton scandal is in a small corner on page 6.”

  5. Bubba Brown Says:

    KARMA

  6. Liz J Says:

Maybe Ford has more fans among the readers of the Red Star than they anticipated, their tabloid antics backfired.
Providing daily scripture reading for the Socialist/Left it might also rile their readers to see Ford on their front pages every issue when it’s their darling Olivia they want to see along with her great plan for their Socialist state of Toronto.

  7. morri Says:

the star, much like the nyt and other liberal publications are losing readers because their version of the truth is starting to irritate people.

    • SandyS. Says:

Well said – ‘their version of the truth’ ! Whatever happened to unbiased news and journalism. I suppose this does tell us that many do recognize when a newspaper has jumped the shark.

  8. Jen Says:

The Dalton/Wynne scandal to the people of Ontario is 1000 times worse than Rob Ford miniscule scandal.
The media scandal is no difference from the liberals corruption. The media will bring their own demise. Writing about Ford every day and not a peep on Liberal Joe Fontana tells us that the media’s obligation is to the liberals.

  9. Beachdude Says:

Todays headline is about new Ford tape from April……guess the haven’t learned

    • Liz J Says:

They should soon realize Rob Ford is not a National figure, he’s the Mayor of Toronto. The constant finding of tapes/videos proves they’re still obsessed with a person who is currently in rehab and should be left alone.
If this gossipy stuff of no interest to most people continues we can assume the Red Rag of Toronto has gone tabloid.

  10. Pissedoff Says:

The way Don Peat in the Sun obsesses about Ford the same thing will happen there if it hasn’t already.

  11. Lore White Says:

This is a perfect form of bullying. If this was at a school all hell would break loose, instead we have watched every day as the media swarmed Mayor Ford as he tried to run the gauntlet to the elevator. I really am surprised anybody would run for Mayor, MP., PM. The media is merciless

  12. gerry from gta Says:

the behaviour of the toronto red star in a “real society” would be guilty of propagating hatred and charged under the human rights act — but of course we do not live in such a world. — just have to see how the Star & other MSM under-reported an actual criminal trial against the Mayor of London, a former Liberal Federal Cabinet Minister, Joe Fontana. Talk about media bias.

The Toronto Red Star has been in free fall the last 10 years with their biased coverage — fair enough it is a private enterprise and they are paying the price — thus more reason to trash the CBC as they are doing it with public funds.

    my two cents.

  13. Lorna Draper (@Linkmeister53) Says:

I’m sure this article by Haroon Sidiqui – that begins with this – “Destroy the village to save it. That was the American logic during the Vietnam War in burning My Lai and massacring 400 women and children. Kill 100,000 jobs in the public sector to create 1 million new jobs. That’s Tim Hudak’s plan to save the Ontario economy.” may cause a few more cancellations at the Star.

I AGREE WITH ANDYCANUCK.. WHERE IS THE COVERAGE OF THE DEPT. MINISTER OF ONTARIO EDUCATION WHO MANUFACTURED CHILD PORN AMONG A HOST OF OTHER BRUTAL ACTS UPON CHILDREN WHILE HE DEVELOPED THE SEX EDUCATION FOR ONTARIO. SOMETHING IS TERRIBLY WRONG HERE AND ITS THE TORONTO STAR.
