NATO claims Russia funding eco-groups’ anti-fracking campaigns – Media Party silent

Anders-Fogh rasmussen

An absolute bombshell of a statement from NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen:

Russia is secretly working with environmental groups campaigning against fracking in an attempt to maintain Europe’s dependence on energy imports from Moscow, the secretary-general of Nato has said.

Speaking at the Chatham House foreign affairs think-tank in London, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Russia was mounting a sophisticated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining attempts to exploit alternative energy sources such as shale gas.

He said: “I have met allies who can report that Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations – environmental organisations working against shale gas – to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas. That is my interpretation.” (see here)

Yet not a word so far from the Canadian media (see here).

Coincidentally(?) CP’s Mike Blanchfield wrote a huge story today titled “Russian envoy blasts Harper as posting ends” (see here).

I’ve asked Blanchfield if this exclusive interview with Russia’s ambassador happened prior to NATO’s claim and if so, when will he be doing a follow-up.

I’ll update if he gets back to me.

Also: See earlier post on my complaint to the Ontario Press Council on a CP reporter omitting who is funding eco-groups here

A way for you to support one of Canada’s natural industries

canada action

Canada Action (love the name) is a group trying to counter the massive anti-oil sands protest industry.

Their latest campaign is an online pledge you can sign:

After a nine year process which included thousands of participants, hundreds of thousands of pages of testimony, exhaustive consultation and hundreds of millions of dollars, an independent panel found that the Northern Gateway Pipeline is in Canada’s best interests.

Canada deserves full value for our resources. The market access that the Northern Gateway Pipeline provides will bring Canada’s resources to the global market, diversifying our trade, and ensuring that we realize the full potential of our resources to create jobs and to help pay for all of our social services like schools and hospitals.

Sign our pledge and stand with science, stand with Canada’s world class regulatory review system and stand up for full value for Canadian resources! (see here)

I certainly support anything that helps take the power out of the hands of these foreign-funded front groups and their Media Party allies.
