NDP candidate says AB oil sands caused ice storm, flooding, heat wave in Toronto

mulcair cressy

According to NDP’s Joe Cressy, it is now apparently official NDP policy that the oil sands are to blame for any severe weather that occurs in downtown Toronto:

The oil sands are the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change, in Canada. And that, said Cressy, is of concern to voters in Trinity-Spadina.

“Climate change, it’s one of the defining issues of our time,” he said.

“People in downtown Toronto talk about it a lot … Climate change is now real here in downtown Toronto. We had this ice storm last winter, we had flooding last summer, we had a heat wave like we’ve never had just a year ago.” (see here)

NDP science!

Cressy was also the one who set up a Commons protest in 2009 and lied about his NDP connections:

The protest was about an NDP private members bill on climate change, called Bill C 311.

You may recall the event, because a large group of protesters were kicked out of Parliament. There were scuffles, injuries and blood.

Some of the bloodied protesters later appeared live on CBC’s Power and Politics.

Cressy was part of the protest and acted as spokesman for the protesters while still on the Hill.

He was later outed as a member of the NDP and a party activist.

At the time, the NDP denied it had anything to do with the protest. (see here)

Are they working for Russia against Canada’s oilsands?

  2. Liz J Says:

There was a time, not too long ago when people got committed for psychiatric care for this sort of insanity, now they’re in politics driving sane people nuts. They really should be committed, people must be starting to clue in to their silliness.

I’d hate to say it but Cressy almost makes his Liberal opponent in Trinity-Spadina,Adam Vaughn, look normal.

Ah, that brings back some funny memories of when I lived and worked in Africa. I remember an occasion when a young woman insisted that drinking instant coffee would make her pregnant. No amount of explaining could convince her otherwise. Now I see one need not travel to the African bush to find the same sort of “thinking”.

But Toronto (Ontario) doesn’t mind taking “transfer payments” from Ottawa which basically comes from Alberta!, and by the sounds of things, they are in such bad shape, they will be looking for more!.. How nutty do they really “think” we are?… They are beginning to sound like the CBC! – their objective is to “bash” the Conservatives even if it is like a broken record!

What does Cressy suppose caused the 98 ice storm in E Ont and Quebec? Oh as long as Toronto was spared I guess it never happened. The deaths and property damage dwarf anything to hit Toronto since hurricane Hazel in early 1950s. These are some of the same people that believe wind plants in rural Ont are suddenly going to supply the city with reliable electricity, if only we build enough of them.!500 or so turbines now struggle to get over 2% Supply most days, often less in heat waves. But that only means we haven’t built enough of them yet.

    • Liz J Says:

Speaking of wind turbines, useless giant fans, whatever, it would make as much sense for us to claim they’re causing our natural disasters, disturbing the atmospheric pressure or some silly claim.
I’d be awfully careful, even if I were an NDP , to support a person who claims the Oil Sands has anything to do with our weather, they guy is either nuts or thinks everyone else is.

  7. Billy Says:

The NDP, powered by fairy dust and unicorn farts.
