Star runs story on Rob Ford rehab treatment leaked by centre’s staff

With this piece from reporters Kevin Donovan and Jennifer Pagliaro, it’s clearly obvious that there is nothing the Toronto Star thinks off-side when it comes to attacking a politician they hate:

Mayor Rob Ford pushed and scuffled with fellow rehab residents and was so verbally abusive that he was kicked out of his group therapy program, according to people who have knowledge of his two month stay at GreeneStone.

For this story, the Star has obtained accounts of Ford’s time in rehab from three people with knowledge of his time there, including a fellow patient, and from others, including a staffer, who provided accounts through an intermediary. Due to concerns over publicly breaching the confidentiality of the treatment facility, the sources asked that their names not be published. (see here)

Think about the standards of privacy at this treatment centre when they have staff (see list here) who will run to the media with confidential medical information.

And if you think there was any push-back from the Star’s media competition, guess again – I haven’t seen a word.

Did The Star pay for this 3rd hand information?

OK. That would be one facility to stay away from. You can’t call yourself professional or ethical and slag off a person or people who seek your services to help them get well. In fact, this should be highly litigious , Rob Ford should not let this slide, he needs to go after all of them including the goddamned Red Star Rag.

    • BC Blue Says:

      I would certainly sue Greenestone

      • Alain Says:

I agree that they should be sued over this.

      • Liz J Says:

Yes. Greenestone definitely should be sued. There’s no hope for the Red Rag, they are what they are but there has to be a bar too low beyond which even they can go and be allowed to get away with it. This is what should put such screed writers clear out of business, no decent people can accept this sort of smut writing, they’re the ones who might want a different type of psychological treatment for their sick desperation to get rid of rob Ford.

Something is really fishy about this.. I can’t see a treatment facility doing this especially one that is private. Are we sure that this is not The Star just making up ANON sources?

  3. Fay Says:

Wow, new low for media party. Lisa LaFlamme featured this journalist and story on CTV National last evening.
Then went on to show protestors screaming at Rob Ford. I got the impression Lisa supports the bullying.
I doubt that Lloyd Robertson would have run this story?

    • Liz J Says:

If LaFlamme had half the class of Lloyd Robertson she would rise above this tabloid type of journalism. In the first place it could well be litigated and that litigation could have a domino effect, all news outlets, TV, radio and newsprint would be in line for just that. Ford is trying to get clean, get well and this sort of stuff lacks fairness and just plain old human compassion. LaFlamme et al are well below journalistic standards taking advantage of this tragic period in the life of a public figure and the only common denominator among them is politics, they hate Conservatives at any level. It’s beyond sickening.

  4. Andrew Coyne proves National Post is no better than Star by running Rob Ford rehab column | BC Blue: One BC Conservative's view on it all... Says:

[…] in point is their top columnist, Andrew Coyne’s latest where he joins the Toronto Star (see here) in writing about anonymous-sourced and confidential medical information on Rob […]
