CBC won’t publish names or photos of war criminals

Even though the Canadian government has released the names of 30 suspected war criminals that are here illegally and is asking for the public’s help in locating them, the CBC refuses to publish their names or pictures:

“CBC News is not publishing the names or photos of the suspects at this time” (see here)

Can someone tell me if the CBC has in the past not published the same information on say suspected murderers or rapists? Is this a new CBC policy that I am unaware of?

BC’s own cell phone-hacking media scandal

In light of the News of the World media frenzy, the Tyee offers a reminder of a massive scandal involving BC politicians and their cohorts within the Press Gallery.

Current NDP president Moe Shiota tabled cell phone transcripts of then Social Credit attorney general Bud Smith interfering in the prosecution of the former minister of tourism Bill Reid.

Sihota had obtained the hacked cell phone calls from one Canadian Press reporter after being made by another from CP.

Two BC reporters ended up quitting. One for being in a romantic relationship with Smith and another because then Sun reporter Keith Baldrey and then Province reporter (turned BC Rail lobbyist) Brian Kieran blocked an examination of the media’s conduct in this sordid affair. (see here)

Note: Picture above is Bud Smith (left) talking to Brian Mulroney at a Vancouver function in 2007. Looking on was then Conservative Party spokesman Colin Metcalfe.
