Liberal MLA gets $13K for 22 minutes work on committee

One of the most under-reported ways politicians pad their salaries is with committee and parliamentary secretary appointments. This pig-trough feeding system is used to reward political allies within with sweet paying gigs that are rarely reported and come with little to no work.

Paul Wilcock’s gives us some examples of this taxpayer abuse by Liberal and NDP BC MLAs.

– Liberal Norm Letnick (Kelowna-Lake Country) was paid $13,353 to chair a legislative committee that met once, for 22 minutes

– NDP Rob Fleming (Victoria-Swan Lake) was paid $8,903 as deputy chair

Lost to them I’m sure is that this committee includes “Ethical Conduct” in its title.

These Liberal and NDP MLAs all voted for themselves to more than double their own committee “wages” the same time that they voted for a 30% increase in base salaries in 2007.

For more examples of other BC MLAs ripping off the taxpayers to feather their own nests, see here.

Taber booted from Question Period improves show automatically

Kevin Newman coming on board as the new co-host of CTV’s Question Period is a sign that Sun News is changing the Canadian media landscape for the better and that the shilling journo types who host the current TV shows have been put notice.

Anyone else get a mental image of Don Martin sweating away getting all-of-a-sudden, very nervous?
