Conservative MP’s statement made in House on the CBC paying for stolen NSA documents

Mr. Paul Calandra (Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and for Intergovernmental Affairs, CPC):

Mr. Speaker, the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices make clear that:

To ensure we maintain our independence, we do not pay for information from a source in a story.

When CBC’s The National aired a report about U.S. activities during the G8 and G20, neither Peter Mansbridge nor Greg Weston disclosed that they had paid their source, Glenn Greenwald.

Greenwald is a Brazilian based former porn industry executive, now assisting Edward Snowden leak national security information.

CBC only admitted to its cash for news scheme after The Wall Street Journal forced it out. CBC is trying to justify the violation of its own ethical standards by claiming that Greenwald is a freelancer.

Greenwald has strong and controversial opinions about national security. Of course, that is his right, but when CBC pays for news, we have to ask why furthering Glenn Greenwald’s agenda and lining his Brazilian bank account more important than maintaining the public broadcaster’s journalistic integrity?

Note: I’ve asked the minister in charge of the CBC Shelly Glover if she has responded to Calandra and will update if she responds.

Nothing the CBC does surprises me anymore! The sooner it is off federal welfare the better!

Finally, someone who is willing to stand up for Canada. Calandra represents everything Conservatives are meant to be! He’s putting that CBC in to the ground. And when he’s done that, he’ll put every left-wing tree hugging civil rights beatnick wannabe in their place. Can’t wait for Calandra to be PM. Calandra’s Canada — only until Rob is ready!

Thank you for posting the words spoken by Calandra.

As a taxpayer, I strongly object to paying tax dollars for stolen information. Who does CBC think it’s fooling? I believe only two people now have the task of distributing the stolen NSA information. That to me poses a great danger to our western democracies in that men like Greenwald are not elected by anyone for deciding what info should be released and what not. And to be paid for stolen information is just not right.

Shame on CBC and shame on Greenwald for trying to take us for fools.

The media are sure going after Paul Calandra…last night on “At Issue” and now this article by Liberal Susan Delacourt…someone even started a so called “comedy” website called askpaulcalandra.com where when you click on you can ask questions and get dumb answers apparently.I wonder if the site was set up by the same suspects who had the vote compass? The media sure have a lot of time on their hands…. and hate.

You can actually sense the fear in the media as if an evil force is warning them how to do their jobs. A sorry sight to witness.

The media will and are doing everything in their power to ruin not only PMSH but Canada and all Busnesses as well; even their (media) very own company which they work for. will cease to exist.

I hope that CBC one day becomes a landfill or a parking lot or a renovated place for the homeless.

I only have one question; since when has the CBC had any ethical standards. I realize that they have Liberal standards, but ethical is not part of their make up…Steve O

  6. Bubba Brown Says:

Ahh yes the “vote compass” brought to you by the folks with no moral compass.
Reminds me of that comedian “You may be a redneck (Liberal)
The CBC’s collective sphinters have assumed a star shape they are down some 200,000,000 and the Government has told them to sharpen their pencils.
What does “news reader” Mandsbridge make anyway?

  7. Mary Hines Says:

I know this is not “on topic”…. but I wonder if anyone saw Fife’s panel last Sunday – when the Colin Kenney scandal was brought up… There was “complete silence” – no one wanted to say a word…. and finally Oliver had a little say – but very little and the rest would say nothing. The media accepts the fact Trudeau lost the original email… can you imagine if that was reported on a Tory loosing an email…. they would dig, and dig, and dig until they found who received the first email… and when… who did they give it to then, everyone knows it wasn’t lost.. they were just in hopes it would be forgotten like all the other sexual complaints were against this Trudeau appointed senator. After all, Kenney, was one of Justins father’s closest aids… and appointed by him…. was he trying to cover for his father’s friend? Can you even imagine this story if this was about a tory?…

I AM 52 AND IN MY LIFETIME THERE WERE JOURNALISTS WHO WITHHELD INFORMATION DAMAGING TO OUR COUNTRY’S NATIONAL INTERESTS. NO MORE.THE CBC AND MEDIA PARTY HOLD GRUDGES AS ALL THOSE OUT OF POWER AND WANT IN SO BAD,BUT, SUBVERTING OUR NATIONAL INTERESTS AND SECURITY GOES BEYOND THE PALE. WE STILL HAVE MEN IN THE FIELD DEFENDING US.MY GUESS IS THAT REVELATIONS DAMAGING TO MY COUNTRY AND PUBLISHED FOR ALL IS CONSIDERED A GREAT COUP FOR THOSE CANADIAN/CONSERVATIVE HATERS. I HAVE TO BELIEVE CANADIANS SEE THESE MEDIA PARTY HACKS FOR WHAT THEY ARE AND REJECT THEIR AMBITIONS FOR ANY SERIOUS POWER SAVE FOR THE NECESSARY OPPOSITION TO CONSERVATIVE OVERREACH.BUT, WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT THEM ANY WHERE NEAR REAL POWER. THE TRUTH IS, THAT WITH WITH MERELY A HANDFUL OF DAMAGING SCANDALS WHICH BRIEFLY CLOAK THE RULING PARTY OF MY COUNTRY, CANADIANS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE AND REJECT THEM.
